We tried out Manek Chowk during our visit in 2020. The experience was mind blowing. The whole set up appears crowded but works efficiently. Food stalls offer standard street food. The fruit juice shots were my favourite.

No hygiene food is served there at such a famous place. It’s just an overhyped place. You will surely be disappointed if you are looking for a clean place for street food. Lots of diseases are served directly to you there.
I have visited Manek chowk for street food 4 to 5 times and each time I get more and more disappointment. You might even visit only once if you have not visited once just because it is famous for streetfood.

People who were making dishes such as Sandwiches etc, none of them wearing gloves in their hands.

Too much crowded even at midnight 12 AM! You can not even walk without a collision with someone else, that’s the level of the crowd there. And no place has space to sit there. Every sitting arrangement there is just on the road and too much congested. You literally have to sit with anyone else with sharing a single table. The person sitting in front of your chair might be a complete stranger there too.

Have to wait a long for your order to be served. It is possible you have to eat it just by standing with no seats available at all.

People just either throw their disposable glasses, cups, dishes, and spoons anywhere or the sellers throw those there anyway. And this makes the place look horrible. I have seen used dishes huge stacks piled up everywhere and food left inside those dishes were thrown together along with the disposable dishes. How cheap!

It was the place called “Manek Sandwich”
They claim they are very famous and have been visited by many food vlogers and tv channels.
After 45 mins of waiting and standing just for one sandwich, I got one little place to sit on the table, and guess what table was not even cleaned properly too. On top of this, when I ordered the sandwich, it came after 30 mins!! So this was the timeframe of just one sandwich!

I ordered Ghughra sandwich from Manek sandwich and what I received was just a normal grilled cheese sandwich. Inside the filling, I checked and it was just green chutney, cheese, and onions, that’s all! What is about saying Ghughra for?!

The size of the sandwich was very small like small shops sell. There was nothing extraordinary I have seen in this sandwich.
The price of this small sandwich was 150 Rs. which is too high if you are serving a little grilled sandwich!

We tried Jamun and Pan shots which were okayish! The price of Jamun shot was 40 and Pan shot was also 40. For two shots, it was 70 Rs.

We tried Abu Famous Sitafal Rabdi there but it was just a regular rabdi there. Cost of that was 70 Rs.

We found mukhwas was good there.

Girls will find their things such as Jhumkas etc. The earrings were nice which were 20 Rs. per pair.

I go to Manekchowk every 4 or 5 years of intervals assuming that they would have better this time than before and each time I just see the same thing and sometimes even worst than the past.

In daytime this place is open as jewellers shops and then at the evening once shops are closed around 8pm then this street food vendors open their joints.

Disgusting levels of hygiene . No gloves used by panipuri wala amd mouth full of gutkha and red liquid.serving with loads of diseases for sure .

Other shops food preparations have nothing wow. Very general taste which can be deferaed by any nukkad wala joint .

Overall a very low standard food area .

It is a street market but for lower category goods. Beware of pickpocketers when you are roaming around.

Manek Chowk was the penultimate stop of our Heritage Walk. We were there during the morning hours when businesses were still opening shop. But we could assess this would become a busy marketplace in a couple of hours.

We saw rows upon rows of clothing shops, turban shops, fruits & vegetables shops etc. Apparently, foodies throng the place evening onward. Sadly, we didn't get a chance to try the food. For those wanting to try, do be mindful of the hygiene.

Also be mindful of the crowds.

Good place to hang around but not a wow place. Can afford to miss if you are quality conscious. Street food of average quality. To experience one can visit once if you wish to. Variety of food is not that much.

Manek Chowk is definately a foodies destination because one can just go on with N number of veg and non veg food items.
The chowk has veg and non veg section seperately.
This chowk is multipurpose as in the morning you will get all vegetable and fruits shopping, in the afternoon all house hold shopping and in the evening the big street food market.
Following is the list of some of the dishes one should definately give a try :
1. Ice cream Sandwitch (with multiple flavours)
2.Cheese Sandwitches(with Different methods and flavours)
3. Authentic Tandoori and Arshmi kabab with multiple mouth watery flavours.
4.Stuffed Dosa
5. Veg Pulaav and Veg Biryaani
6.It has also got many Icrecream and Kulfi stalls that offers different flavoured kulfis.
7.There are one or two stalls of Mukhwas (After Food mouthfreshner).Special mention about this stall is they have got more than 100 types of mouthfreshners .
Manek Chowk will always attract every foodie travellers when they are in Ahmedabad .

Average food but over hyped beyond imagination.
Poor hygiene is their benchmark.
Due to some oddly innovative food preparations, people are attracted to this madness joint.
One cannot enjoy as it is overcrowded and every one is in a hurry to replace you for the others in the waiting.

Do visit but be careful, & keep your expectations to bare minimum.
