This site is definitely worth a visit. It's far from other sites because the king that built it wanted it on the Tropic of Cancer. The whole structure tells stories and it's worth hiring a guide.

Modhera temple is one of the few and rare Sun temple. Ater centuries, temple is as new as it was built few years back. Intact straight out of movies is the immediate thought which comes to mind. There is a pond kind of structure which is so beautiful that one feels proud to be part of such heritage. Neat, Clean... More

It is believed that there are only two ancient Sun temples in India, Konark and Modhera. Sun temple of Modhera is not as gorgeous as Konark but still it is an impressive structure. This temple was built between 1022 and 1063 A.D. and hence a very important from archaeological point. You will be impressed by a step well type water... More

this place tells you the richness of our culture, the values and knowledge our ancestors had... the step lake before the temple which has 1000 small temples in itself and the main temple the place which is geo astronomically aligned with the movement of sun to tell us lot of things happening in the celestial world.

Althogh not the biggest or most impressive temple I've seen in India, this is one of the most interesting temples in Gujarat, well worth the visit.

My only regret is that we couldn't go inside. We visited at night during a festival. The place was crowded and beautiful. It was lit with multiple colors and you could enjoy the 100 small temples in front. If you want to see inside do not go during the night time. It was worth the drive.
