We stayed at Ashvem Beach over Christmas and New Year 2010-2011. Two years ago we stayed at Palolem Beach in Southern Goa. Beachwise, I would definitely go for Palolem which is a classical tropical crescent beach with swaying coconut palms and white sand. The beaches in the North around Ashvem, Mandrem and Arambol are also pretty, but much wider and with darker sand as compared to Palolem.

We liked Ashvem nevertheless mainly because it was quiet and not crowded at all even during peak season. There are a number of places to stay on the quiet part of the beach referred to as ”Palm Grove” including Rococco, Meem's, Yab Yum, Babu Huts, and Yogagypsys. Rococco is an upmarket place that does not look like it's worth the money but then again I didn't see it from the inside. Meem's is a nice place with good food and friendly staff and standard bamboo huts including bathroom. The place I would recommend would definitely be Yogagypsys which has spacious huts, tippees and houses built into the rocks. It has excellent yoga classes morning and afternoon and serves a healthy and yummy breakfast. It does not have it's own restaurant but you can order from the Pagan Café next door.

A new club "Mia Casa" opened while we were at Ashvem Beach right next to Rococco and Meem's. A big fancy place with loud techno music and lots of flashing lights. Terrible place in my opinion and it is bound to ruin the tranquility of Ashvem Beach if it is going to be open too often.

Things to do at Ashvem: take a bus or a taxi to the town Mapusa to see a real Indian market with food, clothes, spices etc. Walk along the beach for about 1-1½ hours up to Arambol Beach to watch the busy old hippie town and walk around the rocks to the little secluded beach. Try out the more upmarket restaurants La Plage and Gaia for some nice Indian and European meals.

For a completely different Goan experience, consider going into the forest for birdwatching with Backwoods. Backwoods is located close to the border with the neighbouring state Karnataka about a 2 hours drive from the city of Margaon. The friendly guys at Backwoods will arrange to pick you up right on the beach where you stay and take you by car to their beautiful camp in the forest. You should however have a minimum interest in bird watching to benefit from the 3 or 4 nights stay that they offer.

I've been to ashwem beach and it is really nice considering that there is no crowd such as in Baga, Calangute or Anjuna. And if the prices go up during the season, it is still less expansive than others spots.
There is a yoga studio on ashwem road, at Aquatica, which is very nice too.and it is not far from the beach. I'm staying here for four months and i rather go here than in the tourist beaches...
So i think Ashwem is a good alternatives during the season...

Every one spells this beach different because all the signposts spell it different. I thought i would write in English as the other review was in some odd language.
Ashvum beach is not a place to stay long term .Its ideal to travel from Baga/Calangute/Candolum to.A few years ago it was a really quiet beach but now its very busy with people looking for a quieter beach than Baga. But its well worth going for a overnight stay in a beach hut.Used to be 300rs when i used to stay over night, but its about 800rs a night now and of course they pick telephone numbers for a stay over Christmas.I have my own Scooter so go for the day but finding a quiet spot there now is getting hard . Lots of Russians round that way.Not a problem for me but they dont speak to anyone apart from their own crowd.

Arti Spa/ Massage is the place to be if you are in North Goa and looking forward to relax. I was on a girl's trip with my besties here for the Holi weekend and we visited Arti. We had a full body oil massage. The owner of the spa Arti gave us discount on the occasion of Women's Day :). The massage was 'Oh so Wow!' I felt like I had a baggage on by back that I loaded off at this spa.
I am certainly going to visit Arti on every trip I make to Goa.

Ashwen compare to the other beaches on the belt from Candolim to Vagator is less popular, less crowded and much cleaner. You will meet mainly foreigners and spend a peacefull time as it is secluded.
You will find some Shack to hang around. The sea is not that deep and you can walk far into the water. A very beautiful beach.

It was my first trip to goa, and i am so glad we chose to be at ashven beach. We stayed at Rococco hotel, which is right on the beach and enjoyed being on the sand and in the sea for 3 days. the beach is clean and peaceful. It is lined with shacks that offer food n drinks. Each shack has it's beach beds lined on the beach with beach umbrellas for cover. the service is generally good, though not very fast at times. better to order what you need as soon as you land there. there are a couple of places which also offer surf boards on rent, for rs.200/-. the beach also has some stalls lined up which sell beach wear, hats, floating tubes for kids etc. But you may have to bargain for that. There is a supermarket on the road that runs parallel to the beach, and you might find some of the things at a better and reasonable price there, like hats and tubes. Even at night the beach is beautiful, and you can walk down on the sand in search for a perfect location for your dinner exploring shacks that line the coast. Ashven extends into morjim and together they offer a really long stretch of beach to enjoy walks and soaks. perfect for people who want to just relax and enjoy the sea.

It is a secluded beach in a small stretch with not too many properties. Fishermen access the beach to go fishing with their boats. But it's very clean, quite and serene. The sea is not at all deep. One can go good 200m in to the water and the water would only be 4-5ft high! A must go destination for those who love secluded beaches.
