I had visited this place last in the year 1994 for a School Picnic. That time we didn't know the historic/religious importance of this place. After so many years, today I got an opportunity to visit this place. I hired a cab from my place at Raipur and I was at Somnath Temple within an hour. The Temple structure is that made of stone carving. Its a small structure, but one can feel that its few centuries old.The Shiva Linga is at least 3 feet tall and has a Majestic Aura around it. The Sangam of Shivnath and Kharoon Rivers is just about 100 meters away from the Temple. The view of the Sangam is just awesome. There is lot of greenery around the place. A nice place to visit for lovers of Old Temples and Devotees of Lord Shiva. A must visit if you have 3-4 hours in Raipur.

The Somnath is located in Kirtipur & is about 40 kms from Raipur. One can go by train which is inconvenient to get down at Tilda Rly station & arrange for a transport for about 20 kms to the Mandir & its better to go by a car/taxi.For a history buff like me it was good going there. The Temple legend says that it was built by Shivaji in memory of the more famous namesake in Gujarat.

The site has lovely views as it is located on the sangam of Shivnath & Kharoon rivers which gives a beautiful natural look to the surrounding area. The Temple itself is rather small but is considered holy. There are other historical sites which one can consider visiting at near by places at Durg,Bilaspur etc if you are coming from outstation.

The temple is absolutely worth visiting. Not only it is known for its heritage but it has an amazing view. The temple is right on the beach of Somnath and offers the best sunset view. It is magnificent. The Aarti timings are 7 a. M, 12 p. And 7 p. While there, do enjoy their light show which starts around 8 p. They have many restrictions for entering the premises, so it would be better if you are not carrying anything. Although you can use the cloak room.

Located at Kirtipur, Chhatrishgarh, 40 km away from Raipur. You can avail taxi from Raipur to go Somnath temple. Truely eye catching view of the sangam of two rivers. Probably more than 100 years old temple. Cool atmosphere. A relief of heart and mind while you entered in the temple. The auspicious Aarati in the evening was outstanding. Must visit place.

Somnath, 40 kms from Raipur is better known for the confluence of two rivers. Here Kharoon, river of Raipur merges into Shivnath River. Besides, there is a small protected forest. It is an ideal place for picnic, but not recommended for swimming. It may be dangerous. The temple is about a hundred year old, but is not a major site.
