This museum is state of the art ! It houses some of the best historical pieces ! It houses artifacts, paintings, textiles and also a cannon from the world war ! A must visit for all to Patna. Its location is not far and easily accessible from various parts of Pune. The staff at the museum is friendly.

The museum has a superb collection of Mauryan and Gupta sculptures in stone on the ground floor. The Yakshi may be the star but there are so many beautiful Buddha sculptures too.

On the first floor the bronze statues are also very interesting. Also a locked room houses the relics of Buddha. It's an extra Rs.100 to see those. Worth it in my opinion.

The grounds are nicely maintained with some lovely huge statues.

Today I went to the old Patna museum (and what is finished of the new building).

As for the old museum I can say that the outside, the garden and what is on display in the court yard is actually nicer than what is on display at the moment inside the building. There is no proper explanation anywhere, so you have no clue what your looking at, or how old it is... Added to that the lighting is bad and it is far too hot to be inside at this time of year! (no airco!?!)... They made us pay more with the guarantee that we could see mor, however that turned out to be one little room with nothing but pictures in it... Not in accordance with what we were told!!... REALLY NOT WORTH THE MONEY!... really a scam if you ask me.

For tourists that have visited museums all over the world, or have just visited the national museum in Delhi, this old museum has nothing to offer you..... and it is certainly NOT a worldclass museum. The only interesting museum in Patna at the moment is the Jalan house... that has a nice collection and you get a private tour for free and no false promises to get extra money out of your pocket!!.

BUT...

There is the NEW museum being built as we speak and that looks more promising!. At the moment two rooms are open, of the children's part and well that meets more the new standard of a modern international museum. Judging by what is there now I think this might be actually something once all 10 rooms are finished. I just hope that the museum has a bigger and better collection than what is at display in the old building at the moment .

Patna Museum is highly rich in historic artefacts and recognised all over the world for its collection. Deedarganj Yakshi statue is a world record holder for costliest insured statue and an example of Gandhar Arts. The museum is full of pre-historic, maurya period, Gupta Period and modern historic collections. A fossilised tree trunk is children's attraction. Highly recommended for student of Buddhist history.

The museum is very good. The entry is ₹15. The most enchanting part of the museum is that it stores & displays in demand at ₹100 the Buddha's relics. That was really a spiritual experience. Most of the artefacts in the museum belong to 9th & 10th cent. There is one fossil of pine tree 58' long some 20 crore years old too. Some bring to the collection of Raja of Mungeyr & Raja of Betia etc. There is one gallery of modern art on Gandhi as well. The museum is worth a visit. It might take about an hour & half.

A very large and interesting museum with varied exhibits from different time periods. Most notably this contains some of Gautam Buddha's original relics unearthed from Vaishali.

Hi,
I now stay in Bangalore with my family. Patna is my native and I visited this place some 15 years back. Now, I have a son who is 3 years old so decided to relive those days with him.

This place has gained lot of attraction recently. Totally revamped and seems like a new construction. Very well maintained. My son liked it a lot. This museum basically is inclined towards Lord Buddha and sculptures found in Bihar and around. Not much from rest of the world or other states of India.

Good one to spend time and know the history.
