Sri Govindarajaswamy Temple is an ancient temple. We can see the deity lying down in yoga nidra position, facing east, holding his right hand under his head while holding his left hand straight over his body. Sridevi and Bhudevi, the consorts of Vishnu, are seated at the foot of Govindaraja. According to legend, this God is the replica of Chidambaram Divya Desa Perumal. The presiding Perumal of Chidambaram, Sri Govindaraja Swamy, was brought and kept in Tirupati during the Muslim invasion of South India. After the situation at Chidambaram returned to normalcy, the vigraham of Lord Govindaraja Swamy was taken back from Tirupati. Please note mobile phones are not allowed inside the temple.

Very nice experience. Had to walk for a bit as the cars were stopped about 1/2 km away from the entrance (which was a little difficult but doable for the elderly in our group). The temple itself was serene and the queues moved quickly. There are multiple smaller temples in the vicinity that you can visit if you have the time to spare.

The attractive, architectural, historical and mythological temple of Lord Sri Govindaraja Swami in Tirupathi was built by the Vyshnava saint Ramanujacharya, the founder of Vishishtadvaita philosophy.
The main deity is Lord Govindaraja Swami, who is said to be the elder brother of Lord Venkateswara. When money was borrowed from Kubhera, for the sake of grand and luxurious wedding of Lord Venkateswara with princess Padmavathi, it was measured in instrument ‘Kolaga’. Lord Govindaraja Swami measured and submitted the account to Lord Venkateswara. In the process He was tired as such He took rest on the seven hood serpent, keeping that kolaga as His pillow, which us visible in the image here, while His consort goddess Godalaxmi is gently pressing His legs to relieve the strain. The Lord Brahma came out seated on lotus, from the Nabhi of the Lord and other gods are praying Him standing around.
One notable feature of this temple is that the celestial bath (Abhishekam) is not done to Lord Govindaraja Swami since He is in the lying position. The other items of functions are similar to those conducted in the Temple of Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala
Close to this main deity there is the idol of Lord Krishna who is named as Lord Parthasarathi. Beside these there is the idol of Mother Goddess Godalaxmi. Outside these garba grihas there are several images, including Ramanujacharya, Mother Goddess Kolhapura Laxmi and others numbering to 19 and may increase in due course of time..
It is situated in the centre of Tirupathi city. The front Rajagopuram is of very height consisting of seven stories and can be seen from a long distance. This is one of the important and prime shrines in Tirupathi, which shows off the vaishnavites traditions of temple architecture.
On Saturdays and festival days there will be long queue of devotees to have free darshan (Dharma darshan). There will be very short queue meant for special darshan on prescribed fee. The float festival (theppotsavam) carrying uthsavamurthy in a boat on the water of the pushkarini will be very attractive festival among many other pujas performed here. The Brahmotsavam at this temple is celebrated in the month of Vaishakha every year.
There are number hotels, including luxurious hotels in Tirupathi. The luxury hotels provide better facilities and service for tourists with A/C rooms compared to ordinary hotels.
You should not miss to visit this temple when at Tirupathi.

The temple is located in the middle of the city and the idol of Govindaraja swamy beautiful. I couldn't find any parking facility, The problem with this temple is that there are 5-6 temples inside this complex and once you enter the first temple you are forced to visit all the others as the line doesn't have a break. This can be a bit difficult on days when the temple is crowded. I had to escape from the ropes after visiting Govindaraja swamy temple as we were getting late.

Lots of small temples come before one reach the main temple. Darshan are good with proper lines for managing crowd. When we visited the temple there was not much crowd and we could finish darshan in 20 minutes over all. Good temple before visiting tirumala.

The gopuram was a sight to see even though some work is being undertaken. It is quite a grand temple in scale even though I didn't go into the main shrine. But the evening anjali seemed well-managed given the throngs.

Sri Govindarajaswami Temple is located at a walkibg distance from the Tirupathi Railway Station. It is one of the most important temple to be visited at Tirupathi. It has an imposing Gopuram (Tower) which can be seen from a distance.
Sri Govindaraja Swamy is the elder brother of Lord Balaji and His temple makes for a prominent landmark in Tirupati town.
Since it is the temple of Lord Balaji’s brother, the festivals celebrated here are similar to the ones celebrated in Lord Balaji's temple.at Tirumala
The posture of Sri Govindarajaswami at this temple is in the sleeping mode with a big measure under the Head of the God. It is said and believed that the God was tired after counting the offerings to Lord Venkateswara and went for a nap. Though many pilgrims visit every day, not much income is generated to this temple.
This temple premises is very big and gives a good look from outside also. In the temple premises, Goddess Lakshmi is also present. People should visit this temple first before proceeding to Tirumala for the Darshan of Lord Venkateswara.
The darshan at this temple is quite at ease. However, Special and Quick darshan is also available at a payment of nominal amount.
