Alipiri Mettu is still closed for Renovation. Srivari Path (15 km to the west) is only open.
All routes to Tirumala need a confirmed Darshan ticket - which is available only online and is already filled up for up to Sep 2021.

After a year of covid pandemic, My family decided to step out to get the blessings from Lord Perumal. Myself ,my husband and 10 year old daughter. We have booked Rd 300 ticket a month before through TTD website. 29th march we reached down Tirupathi and stayed in a hotel. Evening 4.30 pm we visited Alamelu mangapura and parking is on the road itself near the temple. Crowd was less comparatively. we had a good darshan and returned to hotel by 5.30 pm.
Next day 30th March we started and parked our car in Alipiri (Free parking). First thing to keep in mind that the total journey takes 5 to 6 hours.
We started our first time walk journey to visit Perumal @ 8 am. Steps are steep till 2150 steps. we completed the 2000+ steps by 10.45am. we have taken rest every 50 steps. Ample of refreshments available. Only water was not available til half of the stretch and then they sell water in bottles. (Rs 50). Due to humid and hot we have exhausted all water and started taking some energy drink as well. after 2150 steps it was comparatively easy since it was like walking path and little steps. during one stretch work was going on hence we have been asked to go in trekking path. Later at one stage we have to walk in a road where vehicles are also coming. After crossing this we will reach steep step again. Last 1700 steps are like walk /steps and it is really steep at places. In between we took too many rests since my husband had a cramp in leg. Finally we reached Tirumala @ 2pm. We have taken a jeep ,who took Rs 200 for dropping to Rs 300 entry. We went inside the entrance and submitted the ticket, Aadhar card and luggage, phone. Crowd was very less in 300 entry and total time was less than 20 minutes to get Lord perumal's darshan. 2.40 pm we came out. Collected laddu and it was crowded. Tool almost 20 minutes. later we have taken a jeep (Rs 800) and reached Alipiri Parking.

Walking the Alipiri Mettu with the other pilgrims was the highlight of our trip. It is generally done barefoot, but because of our age we wore shoes. We walked up and down which took all of the day, a long way but but well worth it. There are plenty of stops along the way with views and refreshment. Wildlife can also be seen. Start the ascent early before it gets hot.

This is a pathway that leads to Tirumala by walk. The steps are around 3600 and you will find small statues and temples en route. A good experience.

Alipiri Mettu is the best route to climb Tirumala if you have kids and elderly people with you. We were 15 of us climbing this time. It was our second time climb via this route. Two years back, when it was our first-time climb, we had to wait for really as long as 12 hours for darshan in waiting rooms of queue complex, but thanks to the new darshan time slots stamping process, we did not wait for so long this time. On 27th October, we started climbing Tirumala via Alipiri footpath at 4:45 AM. We were given DivyaDarshan tickets at the beginning of steps and on reaching Gaaligopura the step number 2083, the darshan time slot was stamped on those tickets. We took about one hour to reach this point (Some of the slow climbers in the group took 2 hours also). After getting darshan time slot stamped we slowly relaxed had breakfast and continued to climb the rest of the steps. Overall it could range somewhere between 3 hours to even 7 hours if you are really slow or have kids or elderly people climbing in the group)

On reaching the hilltop we need not wait for long hours in waiting rooms or compartments now, as they give the reporting time stamped on tickets, it is easier to roam around and report at the prescribed timings. Once you enter the Divya Darshan Queue complex it takes about 3 hours or less to finish darshan and exit to collect the laddoos. (On our first-time climb, we have waited for 12 hours in compartments but this time the process was streamlined such that we need not wait for long hours in those compartments.) It is a maximum of half an hour wait inside those rooms(we literally waited for just 5 minutes in the room) Overall it could take around 3 hours to have DivyaDarshan.

It was my 3rd time when i decided to take darshan from the Alipiri mettu, the walk is of 12-13 Kilometers I guess. Steep steps, it takes around 4 hours on an average to reach Tirumala. If you are walking in the morning hours you will find prasadams being distributed on the way. Plenty of juice stalls & food stalls are available on the way.
