This is a popular landmark for the islanders as well as tourists as the Stars booking counter for Govet ferries is located here & tickets can be booked between 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays & upto 12 noon on Saturdays. Also, the Neil Island & Havelock Island bound government ferries depart & arrive here. Tickets can be booked easily without much rush as all information of huge rush & preference to locals etc are misleading propaganda by local travel agents to boost their income by diverting tourists to private catamaran operators. Some of the government ferries to Rangat, Diglipur, Little Andaman also leave from here along with Haddo Jetty. It's 10 minutes walk from the Central Bus Stand at Mohanpura & 15 min walk to Aberdeen Bazar.

This is the jetty from where all government and private ferries operate. You have to book well in advance for a trip between Port Blair and Havelock island or Port Blair and Neil Island. We made this big mistake of relying on a small time hotel operator who promised to get us tickets for transfer between Port Blair and Neil Island. Te place opens early at 5:30 am and there is already a large queue there. For the same day tickets, you have to queue up at about 5 am, so that you can get the ferry ticket for the government boat which leaves at 6:30 am. This stress can actually ruin your holiday - so please be careful. Also, do not leave Port Blair with a one way ticket - you will have a tough time getting return tickets. Government ferries are primarily aimed at transporting locals and they dissuade the tourists from using them. This is very acute is winter when half of India descends into the Andamans and there is complete chaos. Everyone promises to get you a ticket - but finally, you will have to personally stand in the queue - unless you already have pre booked these.

The private ferry tickets also go at at premium - again to be booked at least 1 - 2 months in advnace.

Port Blair harbor also known as Phoenix bay jetty. It is 9 km away from Port Blair city centre and 5 km from Airport. The Directorate of Shipping Services, A&N Administration operates regular ferry services for inter island, foreshore sectors connecting all populated islands/ tourist places like Havelock island, Neil Island etc.
Regular passenger ship services are available to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam. There are three to four sailings every month from Kolkata and Chennai to Port Blair and vice-versa. There is one sailing for Visakhapatnam in a month. The voyage takes about 50 to 60 hours. Tickets can be booked for any of the vessels in any scheduled sailing at the STARS (Ship Ticketing Advance Reservation System) counters.
The sailing schedules are published in local newspapers- Daily Telegrams and also broadcast through the All India Radio/ Doordarshan, Port Blair. Tickets are issued through the STARS counters managed by the Directorate of Shipping Services. Please note that the ferry timings are subject to change without notice. All ferry transfers are subject to weather conditions, sea conditions, sailing permits and Department of Shipping schedules. Please check boat schedule with D.S.S by calling +91-3192-231794(Afloat).

Please keep in mind that the Ferry timings from Havelock to Port Blair do not correlate with flight timings to mainland India, all tourists therefore must spend the last night in Port Blair.

I have visited Andamans in Jan 2021, used Government ferry to visit Havelock. Mr.Gopal (Cell No. +91-9531918600) helped us to get the ferry ticket by filling and submitting the form 2 days ahead of travel, which is mandatory to book the tickets. (Because online booking facility is not available).

He picked us from Airport and dropped at ferry, guided us what places we can go at what time in Havelock and Neil Island. Even in Port Blair he took us to all places nearby in the limited time we have in his Auto. He is very helpful through out our trip and he made it easy for us with his suggestions for places to visit and stay. He is not a money minded person like others, will definitely recommend to contact him if you are going to Andamans.

I'm not sure how the information got screwed up, but our 12:30 ferry to Havelock didnt leave until 2, and it didn't get there until 2 on the return trip. Someone got the information wrong or was flat out lying.

That left us sitting for 2.5 hours in a grungy building with lousy information & even worse bathroom facilities.

I was traveling with an Indian lady & she did not want to drink water for fear of having to use what passes as toilets here - 2.5 hours in a hot environment with no food or water.

Considering how many people go through this place, this should be an embarrassment to everyone in A&N.

A definitive reason I won't be returning with my wife.

This is a jetty in Port Blair. Would like to share some tips for travel by cruise; reach atleast one hour before the cruise timings. Do not take luggage which cannot be pulled via trolley. You will have to carry luggage for half a kilometer and a non-trolley luggage can be problem.

1. The process involves you firstly getting into the building ( think of it like entering an airport terminal ) . You only need the tickets and ID. The bad part is that there are NO TROLLY’S for luggage . Please pack accordingly .
2. The luggage including the hand carry would then have to go through an X-ray.
3. Post this you enter into another room where you have to get the ticket vetted . IMPORTANT- only one family member can stand in the line for getting the tickets vetted . They basically stamp the ticket . You don’t need to drag the luggage in the line . They don’t even ask where are the other members etc ,
4.Move out of the building , towards the ship again dragging the luggage ( distance would be 30-40 m )
5. The luggage does not have any tags etc and they rely on you to deposit the luggage with them and then identify it on the way out .

Happy Travelling.
