This a nice little island. Although you do see some ruins, the main attraction are the deer (550 in all as per their caretaker - Anuradha Rao). These deer come close to you and are not afraid. You may touch and pet them as if they are your pet dog. Never seen this before.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island previously known after Ross Island was the formal headquarters of the british colonial adminastrators. The buildings once used are ruined by natural calamities or bombing by the Japanese who surprisingly ruled these places for nearly three years. Once the Japanese left they handed over it to Netaji hence the new name. Its about 10 minutes by boat from water sports complex, aberdeen jetty, Port Blair. The light and sound show must be pre booked. Do not forget to see the light house at the far end of the island

Ross Island is presently called Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep. It used to be administrative headquarters of the British administration. The ruins at the island tell amazing tales of the luxury this place has seen. It was called, because of the splendour it had developed at the time, Paris of the East. One can spend lots of time here seeing what life it used to see in earier times. There is Light and Sound show here. Views from the Islands of North Bay and Port Blair are amazing.

We had visited ross island on 02/01/2023. There will be an speed boat that we have to take to reach ross island from Port Blair which costs around rs/-370 per person. Once u visit Ross Island, you will be given 1 hour to spend time there. I will tell according my experience 1 hour is very less time. Electric vehicle is also available. There are many old British administration ruins, free roaming deers as well as view point. View point requires 45min trekking or one can take electric vehicle as well which is available outside jetty. Sadai Gopal bhaiya had suggested us to 1st visit light house as soon as possible since photo or view comes very well. Have attached some of photos as well. If we waste time in photography of British ruins, u can miss light house so please go to light house 1st and then on way back u can visit ruins. Since sadai gopal bhaiya had booked our speed boat tickets, we got discount and costed only 300 rs per person.
He is best and very genuine whom u can trust blindly on any booking. For any hotel/ferry/cab/auto/byk booking in andaman islands. Contact him in number 9531918600/9933202151. He will be little busy. Contact him in advance for any details. We had 10 days trip. He took care of everything. He charges very minimal also. In ANI for any thing he is go to person.
He also has very good knowledge on port blair geography.
We were very disappointed that lights and sound show were cancelled in cellular Jail. Gopal bhaiya suggested an alternative for the time. So even if any event Is cancelled, if u contact gopal bhaiya he will give u many alternate options as well.

If you want to take it easy, I would suggest that you spend Day1 in Port Blair, Days 2,3,4 in Havelock and Day5 in Port Blair/return flight.
That will give you 3 clear days in Havelock. THere are nice peaceful beaches, and your child can do some watersport activity at Elephant beach
Hi, I am planning to see the light n sound show at Ross. I would be thankful to you if you can give some input on the following:
1. Ho to pre-book the ticket for the same? One of the tour operator I talked with is clueless about this! Is it available on spot?
2. Once the light and sound ticket is obtained, how to get the ferry ticket for afternoon-evening transfers.
Thanks,
Thank you for your answer. I actually called the tourism department in Port Blare.
The ticket can ONLY be obtained (as of Jan. 2020) from the tourism office only on the same day between 9am-3pm. The ticket is Rs 100. The ferry (dedicated to the L&S show) can also be booked from there paying extra Rs 300.
However, other than the difficulty of getting this ticket, the other thing that is making me thinking about changing plan is, if we take this ferry dedicated for L&S show, we may not get good time to roam in the island itself as it would approach evening. As per the tourism dept person, we will get around 45 minutes between the ferry reaches there and the L&S how starts. Not sure if it is sufficient.

No probably not. You would have to break it into two days. But keep in mind that English show is not every day both in cellular jail and Ross island. I recommend checking the current schedule before hand.

You can not see the Cellular jail light and and sound Ross island laser show in the same day. These shows can take place after sun sets only. Ross Island laser show ticket you can have at IP&T counter at PortBlair situated opposite of Air INdia office or online. Now a days the Cellular jail light and sound show ticket is also available on line ANDAMANS.GOV.IN

Can i start the 2 island tour (Ross Island & North bay Island) at 11 am & still cover it comfortably ? I mean do we get boats at 11 am OR is it too late for the day ?
Note - Asking this because I would be reaching portblair (from Havelock) by 1045 am only through Haddo jetty.

You cannot reach from port Blair jetty to this particular point in 15 min.
There are boats which carry 10 persons at a time
If you are not interested in Scuba activities or folding ride you can cover both.
It is touch and go.
Arrival point from Havlock and Troy point for Northbay are different .
Avoid Dolfin ride it is not worth ,
Is Ross Island port blair and Ross and Smith twin island same?
Expedition18005
Howrah District, India22 contributions
Ross Island Port Blair and Ross and Smith twin island are not same. Ross and Smith island is situate and Diglipur. If u talk about Ross island which recently named as Netaji Subhash Chandra Deep then it is at PortBlair and can be accessed by spped boat by 10 minutes and see the island by foot in 1 and half hour to 2 hours. This island is the capital of PortBlair before independence in English era. The structures are depleted. A small museum and recently erected boards will describe the detail of the gone era of this island. But suggestion for u to must take the service Ms Rao the only guide of this island for very very long time. Seen her in the year 2003 and year 2019 also. She is emotionally attached with this island. A few videos are there in u tube. She not only describes the history but take care of the deer around. U can see lot of deer in this island. Near the Church u can see lot of peacock the symbol of purity. This island has lot of coconut tree and those trees are numbered. U will see crematorium, steam water purifier, swimming pool, man made pond with lotus. Donot miss the sea side of Ross Island from where u will see the open see and this part of this island was destroyed by tsunami, evidences are there. Now come to Ross and Smith twin island which is situated at North Andaman at Diglipur area. This can be accessed by speed boat from Aerial Bay in Diglipur area. Whenever u go to Aerial Bay say that u wish to go Ross and Smith twin island people are there who will take u by boat to the island a charge of 350Rs approx per head, and they will guide u to register ur names at the local police counter by showing ur government photo identity card. Start ur journey and feel the choppy sea if wind is there, but no need to get panicked and fear. Because u will be wearing florescent color life vest. Before planning MAKE SURE THAT U WILL BE REACHING AT THE ISLAND at low tide or JUST STARTED LOW TIDE. Because only at the low tide u can walk down the beautiful sand bar (comes up) from Smith the bigger island to Ross the smaller island. After this magical walk have ur bath at Smith island and enjoy sun shine depending on the season at the sea side chairs. Do not forget to see the colours of the sea water and change in it with the change of sun shine. Now you must plan Diglipur trip which had lot of attractions (RamNagar Beach, Mud volcano, Alfred Cave, trek to the Saddle peak the highest peak in Andaman and Nicobar Island, and Kalpong river hydro electric porject).
You can reach Diglipur from PortBlair by ship(very few), by Helicopter(Costly and seat availability very very few), AND by road. U can hire car. There are Government buses and privater buses. Government and private buses are also have night service from both end. It is a journey of 13hrs. But Jarwa reserve forest and nature bounty will not make ur travelling boring one. Do not forget to book ur accommodation at the Turtel Resort at diglipur from IP&T from PortBlair. If u do not get the accommodation there please do booking at Pristine Beach resort can be booked on line. Enjoy the trip.

Hello,
Hope you are doing good!
We are visiting Port Blair during the last week of this month and had a few questions regarding the same:
1) Is it required to buy the semi submarine tickets is advance online and what is the price of it? On their website it says 3.5k/person.
2) Is sea walking available in Havelock? if yes which one would you suggest. North bay or Havelock.
3)How much time would be required to cover both Ross island and North bay Island. can both be completed by 2pm and then head towards cellular jail.
Your suggestions and advice would be much appreciated.

We didn't do semi submarine. We did scuba diving in Havelock and it was amazing. No knowledge of swimming is required. Go to this company called Havelock divers, they might help you with sea walk and scuba both. We went to Ross island and it can be completed before lunch time. You can spend maximum 3 hrs there and be prepared to walk a lot. We didn't go to north bay bit we did visit neil island and it was fabulous! An evening drive to Chidiya tapu is also highly recommended. Beautiful place.
