It's part of Cellular Jail- accquainting you with freedom fighters that were part of the prison. It also has episodes that brought them here by britishers. Good place to read history and understand sacrifices made by our earlier generations.

And just like it was the shining intelligence of the freedom fighters who were lodged at the Cellular jail, the museum Kalapani is for all those who come to Andaman, and want to truly understand the history of this island.
Fabulously laid out, like a live visual story unfolding before your eyes, the museum takes you into the earliest years of the nineteenth century. Through the years of the twentieth century, when the political prisoners were housed here, and even later to the time when the Japanese invaded the island. A time about which very few people are aware.
The museum has dioramas that recreate some of the most seminal events, and documented evidence collected painstakingly by the promoter Mr. Lall.
Its a must see for all those who want more in life than just hee hee hee and haa haa haa.

Its a 3 storied building with a huge amount of collection related to the tribes of the islands and the struggle for independence history starting from march 1858. One requires a lot of time and patience. Also those who are genuinely interested in history and museum should only come. otherwise they will find it boring. This is better than the Anthropological Museum as it has more collection. But this is privately owned.

The Kalapani museum is located right at the entrance of the Cellular jail. It has two big exhibition halls which have a huge collection of photographs and paintings of our freedom fighters on display. These brave freedom fighters were jailed here during our freedom struggle by Britishers. They also have a display of several items used by prisoners and British at the Cellular jail. There is a model of the original Cellular jail as well on display. It takes atleast 2 hours to see the place properly. Its a must visit place to understand in detail what happened here during the black era of British rule !!!

First of all hats off to this man who has taken pains to create a private museum (quite unheard of in our country). This is the best place to visit if you want to know the history of Andaman islands (which according to me every Indian should). Collection includes original historical documents and rare pictures. History of the island is depicted through dioramas, photographs and artifacts. It is truly a museum "Where History Lives". Highly recommended not only to get an insight into history but also to encourage private museums like this which is a need of the hour in our country.

We visited the Kalapani museum towards the end of our trip and wished we had come here first. Mr Mukesh who is the founder of this place is just so passionate and enthusiastic to share all that he knows and has experienced about these beautiful islands. We probably learnt more about the Andaman and Nicobar islands during his guided tour than we had in the entire trip. His collection of rare letters and documents from the freedom struggle days of India were just fascinating. We highly recommend visiting this place and will surely go back when were are next in Port Blair.

This place is more of a collation of the govt museums in Port Blair and has a lot of unnecessary general stuff on WW2 and the 1857 revolt. Ticket prices are steep.
