So happy we did this museum! Thorough explanation of French Polynesia development from geological to social perspectives! Loved viewing the ancient pictures, artifacts with hair, and engravings.

A very informative and educational museum. There was a lot of information on the islands and the history and culture. Quite a number of artifacts of cultural significance as well as from early European settlement. A very good little museum with a charming gift shop. The anchor from Captain Cooks vessel was well preserved and made a great exhibit at... More

This was an informative & educational visit. The museum gives a good history about the south pacific islands & shows a lot of artifacts that made the visit very enjoyable. The gardens are a nice visit & walk as well

Great place to get background information about the islands and people, especially if you don't have a lot of time for your visit. The path was nicely maintained and easy to follow and the gardens were beautiful. We took several photos of the endemic plants.

A nice little museum (with a lovely garden) and a good range of exhibits and artifacts. I'm one of those people who reads every explanatory sign at a museum, and was disappointed that the more detailed information was not translated into English. I could grasp a bit of the French, but... Still a pleasant place to spend a couple of... More

One of the best places to visit in Tahiti, to understand local culture and discover the richness of the island, from biology to archeological artifacts, religion, etc. To do within the first days of your arrival on the island. There is also a very nice garden and there is a scenic view on Moorea island from the outside of the... More

Just a 7 minute walk from Le Meridien Hotel or approx 20 minutes by car from Papeete. During our visit there was an exhibition so the total time required to see that and the main Museum exhibits required at least an hour and a half. There are numerous halls featuring the culture of French Polynesia; the natural environment, culture, social... More

Gives you a fairly good history review of how these islands became inhabited and by whom. Good lessons in how the early islanders lived. Worth a visit.
