About
Eclectic shops line the narrow alleyways of this bustling market, trading in spices, textiles, and other traditional Egyptian goods and wares. Rub shoulders with the locals and pick out ornaments and trinkets to take home as souvenirs. There is plenty of fantastic food on offer—morish koftas, succulent kebabs, and fresh seafood. The Old Market is a great place to experience the vibrant culture and traditions of Sharm El Sheikh. Put on your haggling hat and get in early, as crowds pick up as the day goes on. Women are advised to dress conservatively, as the market is near a mosque.

Not really a ‘Market’ but worth visiting
Although it’s not really ‘Old’ or a ‘Market’ as such it is still definitely worth visiting. Plenty of shops and restaurants all around the Mosque and great for photos too. Some of it is quite new with some smaller older streets around the back. You do get the constant barrage of invites to come inside the shops but just ignore them and keep walking. It’s just the way they are, no harm meant. The replicas are not that cheap anymore so prepare to haggle with everything.

    Good Vibe
Came back after first visit in 2013. When the Mosque was just been build The place has changed for the better l think. Yes you have your endless souvenirs shops and the owners doing there best to intice you in. But l never came across any over aggressive owners that others seem to come across. Visit with an open mind One shop l definately recommend my mobile died on me l took into the Vodafone Galaxy Shop he got it working again basically it was not charging He took it to bits cleaned it up only charge 10 US Dollars

    Not quite an old market
Not really anything old or market about this place. A recently built square of tourist shops and cafes. Nice way to spend a couple of hours but we had a long taxi ride and I wouldn't recommend it unless you were close by. Nothing like an old Egyptian Market, I've been to quite a few. There's a recently built mosque which is quite impressive.

    Lots of shops
Lots of old shops with prices for tourists. I was hoping it’s gonna be in a style of Grand Bazar in Istanbul where you have the atmosphere of the real old market and you can get some unique things and hand made jewelry, but no. This was not like that. Only 2 interesting things are - old mosque that looks unusual. And something looking like a little mountain with fake waterfall where you can get drinks and it gives you some Arabic vibe.

    Tourist Market and Mosque.
More of a new old market, feels like a nice tourist stop. I'd say 3 or 4 out of 5, depending on what you expect. I liked it more than my daughter, for a quick walk around. Best prices on holiday mementos, compared to our hotel. Depending on how YOU interact with people is how you will find the Old Market. I am not afraid to haggle, or say no, or just keep walking. We bought a few bits and pieces in a shop from someone called Michael, lovely and relaxed, sensible prices. A wide range of Egypt/Sharm fridge magnets etc etc, other shops had more traditional looking Egyptian pieces but with a mass produced feel. Fake clothing brands, leather goods and Rolex were on offer. The modern Mosque, and water feature stand out. Tips - I booked a car from my hotel to the market, prices for a cab caught locally were significantly cheaper. The driver of the cab from my hotel offered to pick us up again, and dropped us at a store (Aladdin's) for a sales pitch. I spoke to a local cab driver at the market, and he offered the same journey (to Soho Square) for less than a third of the hotel's cab service. I had bought a local sim card (Vodafone) at the airport and used this for data, the taxi driver dropped us at Soho Square, and we arranged a pick up time for collection via WhatsApp. Simple, effective, cost efficient. Be aware of your surroundings, and remember you are a source of income for the locals, and some will treat you fairly, and others will try to take advantage. The Old Market was only about two miles from our hotel, worth a quick visit, pick up a few holiday trinkets, and get a few photos. We didn't eat here, always consider carefully where to eat, and what to drink away from your hotel, nobody wants a dodgy holiday belly. Be sensible, stay safe, haggle!

Disappointed with the whole experience

Every shop was selling the same stuff
If I made eye contact with the traders that was their cue to sometimes plead with us to go and browse in their shop

One guy got quite upset because when i said that trainers were a certain price at home he said that was the price we agreed

Its nothing special. There is no traditional spirit of old market. Lots of shops with stuff from china. If you want to buy something buy - tea, perfume or hand made oil. Price is 4 time bigger than should be. So must have negotiation skills.

As soon as we stepped out of the cab we got caught by a shopkeeper who seemed very nice to start.. he conversed with us about my husbands tattoo, then Wales where I am from & then asked me to write something in Welsh for him. This is where I messed up, I went into his shop.
Immediately I knew that we were now being “pitched to” and while he did make an effort to show us his wares I didn’t want to purchase anything at that time. I was interested in a picture though as I do buy cheap art whenever I travel as a reminder of places I’ve been.. so as I would make this purchase anyway I decided to look at something that interests me rather than his perfumes and oils he was trying to sell me.

When I chose one he told me it was 2400 egp and would not haggle the price..
I felt very intimidated and wanted to leave so paid and made my escape as quickly as I could.

From here we were sad as our shopping budget for the day was now gone. We didn’t go into any other shops. We looked at the Mosque, took a few pictures then decided to leave and go for food elsewhere.

It was horrendously busy as it was EID also so this impacted our enjoyment.

In this area, there are countless souvenir shops, each with owners working hard to attract visitors. However, I didn't encounter any overly aggressive owners, unlike what some others may have experienced. Keep an open mind when exploring.

Visited here late afternoon into the evening. Lots of shops and a lovely mosque with charm to the areas around it. Normal pushy shops, but not too overbearing. Lovely place to visit

The mosque was absolutely stunning, and we are glad we got to see that. We also had a great meal overlooking the square. The issue lays with the shop owners. They're incredibly pushy and you have to ignore them just to be able to walk. We had a horrible experience with one shop owner who became aggressive when we said we didn't want to buy anything. We did lots of traveling through Egypt, and over to Jordan, and old market was the only place we felt on edge and unsafe.
