This was amazingly cool. Lots of huge Galapagos tortoises wandering around freely. However there's tons of those poisonous trees w those little green round fruits they eat that are toxic to humans. If you go w kids make sure they don't grab and eat or even touch them. If you found this review helpful pls click HELPFUL below. Thanks!

To see the giant tortoises, we drove 45 minutes inland to this national park where the tortoises are allowed to roam wild but are protected from poachers. It's amazing to see the size of these animals - they have no fear of humans.

The centre is accessed by taxi as part of a half day visit to Laguna El Junco and the beach at Puerto Chino which can be organised independently with any taxi driver for $60 return including waiting time. There is a small interpretation centre but the highlight of the visit is a long trail through a natural landscape where Tortoise... More

We did the highlandtour for $60. The taxi driver takes you to different places, also this one. We already have seen El Chato at Santa Cruz, so this is more of the same. Only here they have also the little very young tortoises.

In Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal island, most of the taxis will take you on a half-day excursion that goes to a park where you hike to a verdent crater lake with nice views, then takes you to the San Cristobal Galapaguera where you can see tortoises roaming around and the breeding center where they have the tiny ones.... A lovely walk through the reserve, with giant tortoises all around us. A great experience. This is breeding centre where the baby tortoises are kept safe from rats etc. to ensure the population of tortoises in the Galapagos survives. The path was a circular one, not too far, but some of it was rocky and therefore not suitable for people... More

Tucked way up in the highlands is this giant tortoise breeding facility. They have tortoises from babies to 90 years old. The older ones are in the wild and just roam the area. very fascinating to see this amazing place.

Various Giant Tortoise species in the Galapagos Islands were nearly wiped out as early visitors to the islands loaded their ships with them as a source of food. The Galapagos National Park service are doing a wonderful job to restoring the population. This breeding center shows the visitor step by step what is involved in breeding these animals to bring...
