We visited the replica of the original on the other side of Floreana Island.
It is the same concept leave a couple of unstamped postcards/letters and find any that you can hand deliver yourself, don't just get home and stick a stamp on, it kind of defeats the idea.
This replica is great for those who are short on time and cannot make it across the island to the actual post box.

None of our group was impressed with this stop--other than the beach. It is a "cute" concept, but not a great experience.

The beach is a good one for walking--very long and has some animal and bird activity on it.

The barrel is where you can leave a postcard for delivery anywhere in the world - unstamped. You take any cards with you which you can hand deliver back home. We left a couple of cards which have yet to arrive but maybe some day...

We also left postcards in the post office hoping our families will get them at some point. We at least would love that.

Had a call today (26th Feb 2020) from my mum in Cheltenham, UK. She had just received our post card, in perfect condition, posted in the barrel on Floreana when we were there on the 23rd May 2012, almost 8 years ago!!!. So it really does work so long as you're not any hurry for your mail!

You can leave a letter or post card at this historically unique place next to the dock. More important is to reach inside and look at what others have left from all over the world. You can help by taking any back home to either mail or deliver personally. It's cool!

Don't forget to bring your postcards when visiting! And it's such a treat to go through all of the postcards that have been left from all over the world. It just brought tears to my eyes to find a postcard from a town not far from us in Texas when we were smack dab in the middle of the Galapagos Islands. Just something really cool about that. :)

You can post a letter here and future travelers will look at the address. If it is near them, they will hand deliver the message. It's an ancient custom. You can also see some ruins of the former settlement, but beware of the numerous wasps around the island.

It was interesting to visit Post Office Bay to see the famous barrel where you look for postcards from people who live close to you so that you can hand deliver them back to those people. Our guide told us that we could mail them if necessary. The beach was pretty, and we took a walk, but it really wasn't worth more than an hour unless you chose to snorkel off the beach.

We were told the story that since the 18th century there has been a mail box here for whale hunters and sailors. It was a lot smaller than I expected. Our guide gave us post cards from previous visitors and if you lived near anyone you were encouraged to take them back to your Country to post. I expected the postcards to be older but only a few weeks ago! We left one behind so will see how long it takes to get to us in the UK. The beach is ok, we didn’t snorkel but did see rays swimming by. Don’t wear bright colours as there is a wasp/bee that is attracted to them.
