A lake located in the crater of a volcano! What is not to like. Simply stunning. A short hike up and down, well worth it. The pictures I took will not do this justice. Seeing it in person is a must. There is a visitor...More

One of the main attractions near Otavalo, the boat ride provides a fun visit to this natural beauty. The boat ride is not expensive and life vests are provided.

We were in Otavalo for a few days so booked a guide from Runatipari to take us on this 4 hour hike . Awesome breathtaking views and great exercise. You need to do it!

Cuicocha is a deep (180 meters) clear crater lake. Take the boat ride around the lakes, fun for the whole family! Do not miss the interpretation center and the short trails around it. Beautiful scenery

A boat ride around the laguna is a must. Cuicocha is a beautiful place to visit. To hike the entire trail takes about 5--6 hours but even just hiking short distances will provide you with spectacular vistas of the laguna/volcano and the valley of Otavalo...More

Beautiful scenery! You can hike here too. Wish I had more time here so that I could hike further. Make sure you have your government id # or passport number on you so that you can enter. Entrance was free :)

We had a very pleasant boat ride in this crater, with our two year old in tow. The boat was very very full and I was a bit concerned about the vessel's capacity, but we all wore lifejackets and the ride was just fine. We...More

This place is worth the drive from Otavalo. It is a beautiful lake that formed in the crater of a volcano. You should take the 10-15 minute boat tour.

Beautiful, caldera lake located about 2 hours northeast of Quito. The lake itself support little of no aquatic life due to its alkaline nature, but the setting is naturally beautiful, and we were informed that certain birds do nest in the two "guinea pig" islands...More

I don't remember what it costs, but we rode on a boat clockwise with such ease. In my opinion, either direction wouldn't make a difference as it's a small, slow but easy ride around the lone mountain in the center.
