Importance of this place may not be properly explained even by visit / pilgrimage of Pope itself.. Its a story of Our Lady/Madonna chappel that miraculous appeared (by flight from Holy Land Jerusalem?) on this site, bringing local people hope and well beeing, also miraculous answer to their prays by saving people from great troubles.. At short time gained great... More

Visited this Svetište twice. Not sure how non-believers perceive it, but as religious person, I feel some strange attraction to it. Especially the votive chapel (Kapela zavjetnih darova) made strong impression on me and I was happy to spend time there. The Sanctuary being run by Franciscan Capuchin brothers, it all makes sense. Lovely place, spiritually strong.

The church is definitely a sanctuary of tranquility; until a busload of tourists arrive. If they do as you enter then turn back to the outside grounds and take the winding path up to the observation point and go past the the 14 "Stations of the cross" with statues interpreting them, before you finish the stations by going down the... This site is apparently a site for Catholic pilgrimage and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 2003 - there is a monument in his honour in the gardens. We took a walking path route, but I understand there is also a route which is over 500 steps and provides excellent views, so I may have missed out! Nonetheless... More

Legend says that when the Crusaders in 13th century took Mary’s house from Nazareth and brought it to Europe, angels transferred it to Trsat and left it here for half a year. Frankopans then built a chapel there and Pope Urban V sent them the icon of Our Lady, said to be miraculous, which soon became the goal of pilgrimage.... More
