One of a long rectangular shape (but overall fairly small in size), really pretty much all there is to do at this plaza is to take a nice pic with the sign 'Yo (heart) Medellin' (although there's also an identical sign at Parque Arvi if taking the Metrocable to that nice lovely park at a "pretty high altitude", so actually no need to come to this plaza just for that sign). There's also a cafe with outdoor seating along the Plaza's length on one side and also just across the short width from that cafe are some big comfortable chairs where right alongside are some beautiful flower beds (which are all pretty close to the Medellin sign for some quick nice pics). And also, while at this plaza, a nice thing (like I did) is to step out of it and enter the fair-sized bamboo grove bordering the Plaza right along its one side (really a nice "mini-nature walk" in a close proximity to quite a number of bamboos).

After arriving at Parque Berrio Station (Line A), I started my "half-day tour" of Zona Centro Historico at Plaza Botero (with about 20 huge bronze sculptures by Botero, each one an "awesome sight" to see up close!) followed by a short walk through the shopping street to the east then a left turn onto another street until the end where there's Parque de Bolivar (just a small park but with a great "equestrian statue" of Simon Bolivar) immediately followed by Catedral Basilica Metropolitana (a big cathedral which is "entirely of bricks"), then after walking the same way back to Plaza Botero and leaving it again from the south side for about a 10-minute walk along a shopping street (a "pretty crowded" one with plenty of both indoor shops & outdoor vendors) until turning right onto a "wide & non-crowded" street along which after another 5-minute walk was arriving at some plaza which is an interesting one for its "long upright" poles (really a great number of them all over the plaza), then it was about another 10-minute walk (to the right from the other side of the pole-plaza) to this plaza where also shortly before arriving is some big wall which is like a "mini-waterfall" (with a row of vertical streams of water coming down from above). On the way back though, I headed to Alpujarra Station (also on Line A but a closer one for just about a 15-minute walk from this plaza compared to Parque Berrio Station which is about a half-hour walk) by also passing along the way a beautiful heritage building which once was a big rail station of the city.

Our tour guide provided insight into the history of this site and how the Botero sculptures were added after the drug war had ended.

La Bella is a wonderful restaurant in the Plaza Mayor. I have had their salmon on both of my visits.
The outdoor seating is comfortable. The service is fast and attentive. Excellent quality, fresh, and wonderfully presented.
5 star dining that does not break the bank.

In most Latin American cities the 'Plaza Mayor' is the central square. In Medellin it is a convention center. This facility is very modern and has more than 5 big salons. Outside quite a big food court.
I've been to the 'Feria2Ruedas', a motorcycle show. This show was bigger than most of the motorcycle show I've been to. Probably one of the largest in South America?

A great convention centre, well organized and laid out. Had a few permanent food courts and lots of temporary food offerings. Getting in and out by taxis was a breeze, there are taxi queue both on the west and east entrance/exit.

Plaza Mayor is very clean and aesthetically beautiful open space in Medellin. It makes for a great walk in order to see its pristine garden and architecture. The sides of the plaza are lined with restaurants and bars which are great to stop off at to have a drink.

Worth a walk around if you are here in Medellin, plenty to see and do. Situated slightly outside the downtown.

Compared to other main squares in South America, this one was a bit of disappointment. It was very modern, away from the centre and not really that impressive. I’m glad I visited but I don’t feel the need to rush back.
