Worst place. No lights at all and almost no one but homless people. Don't go there. A complete waste of time

Not sure why people relate to it as a place to visit

Leaving the Antioquia Railway station in Plaza Cisneros, we walked by the statue of Medellin and entered the Parque de las Luces. This large cement area with its 300 light poles and huge bamboo grove is very popular with street vendors and performers. It is surround by the buildings Edificio Carré and Edificio Velasquez, constructed around the 1900’s, as residential homes, however over time the buildings decayed and turned into places openly sheltering drug use and prostitution. Today after major renovation those same buildings are the home of Office for Education for Medellin, and institutes that support health, education, credit, recreation and culture.
At the far end of the Park you’ll see a Bibliotheca, built not only to improve the architectural landscape but also provide an educational element.

TIP: To take photos at night I would suggest getting a taxi or Uber , and drive round the square.

The collection of lights was interesting to see. Unfortunately, we were advised that that part of town wasn't safe at night so we didn't get to see it lit up.

To see the place lit up, come at or just after sunset - but even locals recommend you clear out by about 8.00 pm at the latest, since the area *has* been transformed but clearly hasn't *entirely* shaken off its once-dodgy reputation.

Definitely a unique 'exhibit.' I would suggest taking a free walking tour, so that you can see many of the downtown sites, like this one, all in one tour.

This park is more significant because of its past, than it’s present. The light towers are interesting, and I loved the beautiful bamboo, but the significance is that it used to be a very dangerous location, where no one would visit, and the city started first by providing shelter to the people who squatted here.. and once there was shelter, they then provided opportunities for education and jobs.. and once that was provided, they worked on beautifying the park by installing the lighted poles, benches and bamboo. What was once a dangerous park, is now a park of beauty and interest.

If you want to see the pillars lit up, come in the early evening (it’s dark by 7), but don’t linger, as the park is still sketchy and potentially unsafe.

This plaza is studded with lighted pillars. Even when the lights are on at night it is not “beautiful” to me, just a lot of lights lit up. Lots of cement, and a few places to sit and relax. With all the interesting plazas and parks in Medellin this one is boring. It also is not in a very safe area, especially after dark.

Wonderful plaza that is there to show how Medellín and also Colombia has rebuilt and regenerated itself after the long period troubles. Very moving. Also some nice local craft markets can be found there on some days. We visited on a Sunday and the market was there.

This area used to be a market that burned down and became a place for homeless to hang out. It became dangerous and run down, so the mayor cleaned it up and put the lights there. It worked, and the area is better now. It’s about triumph and hope like many things in Medellin. You will see and hear about them on Real City tour.
