    Nice sandy beach
I visited in early afternoon in late-August. My hotel was adjacent to the beach. The beach is fine sand with groynes to stop the movement of the sand. There are sections of roped off parasols & sun-loungers at regular intervals (not sure of the hire charge). If not required, I found a simple “No amigo” was enough to deter most of the hawkers offering drinks, food, cigars, hats, inflatables, fridge magnets, massages, rap music etc.

    Bocagrande Beach
I was skeptical about visiting this beach because of the reviews stating it wasn’t very relaxing but I am glad I decided not to listen and go anyway. Yes there are local salespeople that ask you to purchase merch or services but did not bother me like I thought it would. Nice beach to come and watch the sunset. We brought wine, snacks and a speaker but did not use the speaker because we were enjoying other people’s music around. Come, watch your belongings, use common sense and you should be fine.

The sellers harass you constantly so you have no peace
We stayed at an Airbnb right across from the beach. The beach itself is ok, nothing special. The sand is a light brown, not white/cream, and the water is kind of a dark bluish-green, not clear. If it were just for the beach itself, I'd probably give it 3 stars. But the constant bothering by the vendors really makes it unpleasant. They try to sell you everything from massages to fruit, water, beer, toys, hats, floats - some even come and start rapping loudly or singing right in your face as if you're going to give them some money for doing that. The majority of them will accept a "No, gracias", but others are more insistent - they just keep standing there staring at you or trying to ask you in some other way or the masseuses even try to start grabbing your feet like they're going to start without your consent!. Beaches should be a time when you can just relax and enjoy the environment, but it's really impossible on this beach.

Constantly harassed by sellers every 5 minutes. Impossible to relax and risk of something getting stolen.
Don't bother going

Nothing but thieves on the beach they want 50,000 pesos for use of an umbrella. I understand people need to make a living but they also charged me 40,000 pesos for 2 corona beer
I don’t mind helping a few poor people but it got to the point where I am tired of the scams. I tried to be fair with them but I won’t give anything to a street vendor now or a begger.
I learned my lesson

Good:
-White sand
-Kilometers of beach

Bad:
-Flooded with people…hardly any little space to be able to walk or lounge unless you pay for the chairs and umbrellas
-Every few meters people have their radios turned up at full volume creating a crazy cacophony
-Green sea water with no visibility and sometimes very dirty (full of floating waste)
-Sellers who harass you continuously and who make noise with whistles, bells or shouting

For most people this is not a tourist destination. Neither is Cartegena . For me , i like it. It has a certain appeal to the right type of person. Colombia in general is not a place for rookies

A long beach on the Caribbean Sea lined with umbrellas and cabanas available for rent. Across the street from hotel row.

Terrible beach. Cartagena as whole is a bad experience, but this beach tops it. Is literally impossible to have fun: you’ll be harassed by vendors ALL THE TIME. I couldn’t finish a sentence with my girlfriend without being interrupted. But this is far from the worst: people trying to touch you, following you trying to convince you tu buy stuff. I’ve been to 23 countries and this is just unbereable. Don’t do this to yourself.

Expecting a pristine beach with white sands, clear blue water and a relaxing atmosphere? Then Playa de Bocagrande is not the place for you.
We stayed at Hotel Cartagena Dubai and the beach south east of there was a dissapointment.
First up the footpath was either non-existent or in need of replacing. Then you have spruikers approaching you every step of the way offering goods or inviting you for a tour or to their food venue. The novelty wears off in about 4 minutes.
The beach is a dark sand and close to the water edge is lined with chairs and umbrellas for rent (with more spruikers offering you "the best spot")
The water, although a lovely warm tempertaure, has a lot of sand sediment in it but none-the-less was nice to swim in.
Everywhere there is litter and it was somewhat amusing, if not frustrating, to watch a guy walking along the beach with a wheely-bin to somewhere but not collecting a single bit of rubbish up on the way.
Along the beach closer to the road is lined with cafes, if you can call them that, of a very basic makeup. Strangely they all seem to have pretty much the same offerings, including the layout of their menu. On first look you wouldn't want to eat from any of them as the food handling standards appear to be ... umm.. basic at best, however we did eat twice from different stalls and had no issues.
We did head to the beach north east of the hotel and found no spruikers or cabanas for rent etc, so a much more relaxing and enjoyable experience.
