We learned quite a bit about the history of Cartagena from the audio tour at the castle. It's much larger than it appears from the street. We saw a long line to purchase tickets, then saw the window for audio tours was empty. Save yourself 15 mins and buy tickets and the audio tour. When you finish the tour walk... More

This is a very impressive fort. It is absolutely enormous and provides great views of the city. Even at 9:30 am it was hot - so go early. Make sure you explore some of the tunnels.

Enjoyed walking round this huge castle. We just cabbed it over and walked back to the old town via a shopping Mall.

Definitely pay for a tour guide -- you'll learn so much. Plan to spend an hour or so here. You walk up to the fort (which may not seem appealing in the heat, but it is worth it) and are rewarded with nice winds to cool you down.

The fortress and its history are definitely worth the little hike up. Wonderful views too. Price was too high though, especially considering the lack of basic facilities.

Recommend a visit to the Forte San Felipe. We enjoyed the help of an Eglish speaking guide who made the varios strategies of the building very clear. Count one hour for the entire visit.

A visit to San Felipe is a must for any first-time visitor to Cartagena. In fact, I have been to Cartagena a dozen times now and have visited San Felipe almost every time. I always see it in a different way. Touring Sam Felipe gives you a true sense of the history of the city and the battle of the... More

We walked in mid summer, July 2015, and even though it was scorching hot the view was worth it. I would recommend good shoes ( we went barefoot, haha ) and water with you. There are also vendors alongside the route with beautiful nicknacks for purchase. It did cost money to go inside.. about 15Euro.

Be prepared specially in a sunny day, the climb is a little steep but the view of the city from the top is beautiful. Good place to spend some free time.

This was a very interesting place to visit. The audio tour was excellent and easy to use. The architects very much understood military defense. The tunnels were fun to walk in. Overall very impressive.
