It's crowded and bustling but a thrill to get away from the tourists and see how real people in Cartagena live. The sheer amount of food blew us away. The music and rhythm are amazing. Wear closed shoes and just immerse yourself in the mayhem....More

It's a market serving local people in a developing country. Of course it's loud, dirty, chaotic and has things that you maybe have never seen before (a platter full of cows' eyes!). It's not scary. I didn't think it was dangerous. Go there and watch...More

Whereever we go, we are visiting a local market. That is where we see the real thing. Colorful, smelly, happy smiles and from fish and meat, to plastic toys, colombian footballshirts, fruits and vegetables. You can have your hair trimmed (men) , have a drink...More

Escorted to the market by Insider Tours (Fem) specifically by Marcy and Elena. This tour into the working every day market for the local peoples of Cartagena was really special. We were dropped off at a mall and told that this was the last clean...More

Vibrant, authentic, sprawling market which is worth a wander. Visitors who complain about it being dirty have either not spent much time in developing countries or they have delicate sensibilities.

If you consider the Caribe Plaza Mall is about a kilometer from the Mercado Bazurto you will notice stunning contrasts. If a taxi drops you off you will most likely be on the outskirts of the mercado closer to the water. If that is the...More

We've been to local markets all over the world--we love 'em--and this ranks up there with the "best." It's a given that these places are earthy--most countries eat ALL of their animals, not just the choice parts as in the U.S. You are likely to...More

Yes, we were there last month and used Cartagena Connections and they were fabulous. I would ask for Jan (John in German). We was excellent, knew all the nooks and crannies, what to eat, and spoke great english.
