We watched the sunset at the city wall and went afterwards to this place. At the entrance Linda took care of us and placed us at a nice table. We had some easy bear and a very nice cocktail! The service was excellent-thx Linda! Best place to be around sunset

Fantastic warm welcome by the host Maria Lucia. That's what any good restaurant needs. What a charming and kind person. I own hospitality businesses in Amsterdam and would be more than happy to take them all with me haha! Lovely spot with great views, great cocktails and great food. I absolutely love Cartagena will definitely come here more often. Keep it up !!!

We loved coming here for the drinks, food, live music, setting, and ambiance! We had some amazing cocktails here like the Gin 1830 and the Made in Colombia. The service was wonderful. It started pouring and they moved us under the cover and then back out when the rain stopped! We loved it so much, we went twice! They were very accommodating of our large group. Don't skip it!

As a Trip Advisor DESTINATION EXPERT for Colombia with 30 years of visits and now living 4 years in Medellin and exploring just about every city large and small - it is my pleasure to provide this reasoned and accurate review of the Baluarte de San Francisco Javier.

Every time I return visit to Cartagena I always am drawn to see the cannons looking like they are ready to fire again despite being hundreds of years old.

I drove up from my home in Medellin in mid November 2020 and it is good to be out and travel again.

Yes I recommend that everyone who visits Cartagena come and enjoy all the locations of this iconic fortress.

We love the location and vibe but, after our last two visits during an extended vacation in Cartagena, we are going elsewhere for evening cocktails. On both visits, we were seated promptly but waited far too long for a waiter to take our order and then for what seemed like forever to be served. Worse on one visit, the server tripped and spilled our friend’s wonderful- looking pina colada on my neck, shoulder, and trousers. He offered a dirty napkin to clean up and that was all — i.e. no apology and no compensation. Management here definitely needs to pay better attention to training, service and customer satisfaction.

The seabass was delicious! It was cooked to perfection it was buttery and flaky and really nicely seasoned and cooked comparable to some of the best restaurants in the states. The appetizers were very nice as well had the ceviche and the lobster carpaccio and both were very nice. This restaurant in my personal opinion blew Carmen and Alma away as far as food is concerned

On two of our three nights in Cartagena, we had cocktails here watching the sun sink down into the ocean... absolutely beautiful spot for it!
There’s a load of seats and tables set up for people to enjoy a variety of rums and rum based cocktails at the end of a long, hot day. Happy hour is great with 2-4-1 mojitos being extremely popular. It’s from 4-8pm daily.
Service is very good, even when it’s busy. There’s ample staff to cater for the crowds that gather on sunset and stay for the live music that follows.

The location of this place is fantastic. We ere very excited to go there at night to enjoy love music and dinner. We were pleased with the mojito happy hour special (2 for 1), but disappointed with the food section: the food menu is two small pages (all appetizers) while the drink menu was 20 some pages. The band was still setting up so we didn’t get the see the live music, so I can’t comment on that. We chose to leave after our mojitos and have real food somewhere else.

Verdict: probably a great place to party but it’s not a place to enjoy good food and live music.

Our second visit here, the first was as we were walking the Wall, we stumbled onto this wonderful bar in time to see a beautiful sunset.

We were told that they have live music Thurs-Saturday nights, and any night before a holiday.

So, we came back for the Live music which starts about 8-8:30. We caught a bang playing salsa, cha-cha, and Latin jazz.

We dressed expecting the dance floor to be coral rock/concrete, like the Wall, but we're pleasantly surprised that it was a black glazed tile.. though, somewhat sloped to allow rain (and my sweat 😄) to run off it.

It was a beautiful evening, the moon popping out between clouds, occasional warm breezes.. along with, what felt like, 90% humidity. We had a nice time, enjoyed some excellent Mojitos and some great dancing.

There was a cover charge and the drinks were kind of pricy.
