Dance in the street with locals
Easy to get lost and enjoy it during the day. Variety of options for lunch. Close to the fortified old town. Shows in plaza Trinidad from 07.09h. Try callejón ancho from 07.30h on for drinks, dance and mixing with locals partying in the street. Specially "donde la niña" ir inside Carpinteros. Or pay 50.000 to dance salsa in Havana cafe. Just be careful not to choose a noisy room in your hostel.

    The hip, artist area.
This is like the hip, artist area with a lot of hostels and also where many travellers stay. Think colourful streets. Nice coffee shops and hip bars. Easy to get lost in the streets. Worth doing a free walking tour of the area to learn more.

    Barrio Getsemani
Very interesting area with lots of street art and old buildings painted in various hues. Many areas with art on the walls and bougainvillea cascading down. Quite beautiful. Many tiny alleyways with bars set up on the narrow sidewalks serving a myriad of drinks. The alleyways are decorated with flags, umbrellas, lights etc. each quite different.

    Vibrant and colorful neighborhood
Beautiful neighborhood to wander around in. At night it comes alive with music, lights and people. Great artwork every where you look. Great place to stay and experience the difference between night and day. Also close to the walled city, Castille amd wharf if you are catching a boat to some of the islands.

    Get Thee to Getsemani
Dittos all the reviews before this one neighborhood (barrio) Getsemani is why we go to Cartegena. This is genuine Colombian. The vibrant colors, music and abundance does not quit. Charge up your phone, take pictures as you meander from street to street, you really can't get lost. Many shops to amuse you. Notice the Ventana de Barbe: the wood under the building windows. It is shaped like a man's beard. Take in the various parks and small plazas.

    really cleaned up now
Relative to some years ago, Getsemane has been largely restored and now has beautiful galleries, small shops, bars and cafes. Worth a look. Do take precautions with personal property and probably best explored by daylight.

    Party, party!
I doubt anyone would come to Cartagena and not visit this area of the city. It's very vibrant and colourful and at night especially busy and loud. Some great street art, loads of street bars where you can get a cocktail for around 15,000 COP, street entertainment, vendors selling all sorts, people just hanging out and restaurants. All feels pretty safe. Not sure I'd pick a hotel here again though as it was so noisy.

Safe and fun area of Cartagena
Loved all the art and the mere beauty of this neighborhood. It's almost like a maze, so many corridors and turns but you always end up in awe at all the flowers and paintings. We ate a great lunch here and found an air conditioned cafe to rest in for a while. Everyone is so accommodating and friendly! Nighttime is cool too to see all the lights above the streets.

I really enjoyed wandering around looking at the murals on the walls and stopping to grab a coffee. I went first with a group then returned the next day alone. I felt completely safe but I also stuck to roads that looked well traveled. This is the area that is rapidly gentrifying and has many small Airbnb/hostel places &small cafes. They also encourage artists to paint large colorful murals on the walls. Plus you get the usual graffiti.

After some research online I found a self-guided walking tour map that we used to walking around and appreciate much of the street art. Did this during the day. Many other people doing the same. No safety concerns. The art and colors and life are amazing. Highly recommend a walking tour of Getsemani!!

Getsemani was an equally impressive neighborhood to the more famous walled city. We loved strolling around, photographing the impressive and colorful colonial architecture and brilliant street art in the form of graffiti and metal sculptures. There are also plenty of delicious restaurants here, but a little less expensive than the walled city. Another advantage, is that there are way less street vendors and tourists here, so quite and with much less hassling to buy something that you constantly get in the walled city.

The streets of Getsemani are prettier in most parts than the walled city and many houses are being restored and turned into boutique hotels or hostels. Whether this ruins the area ultimately remains to be seen. Currently a lot of the little streets are adorned with umbrellas or bunting which makes them colourful and festive. On the whole it is a bit quieter here than the centre of the city.

Very easy to walk to from the old town outside the city walls (10 -20 mins depending on your starting location). Definitely worth a trip to have a look around although there isn't very much to do there. Lots of little cobbled alleys and holes in walls to eat and opportunity to buy unique artwork. The colours are bright and spectacular but it is a 'tourist area' so was reasonably busy and a few touts loitering. 2-3 hours is enough time if you're stopping to eat as well.

This barrio has lots of art on the wall, lots of murals/graffiti that tells a story. Lots of locals who are going about their day, relaxing, fixing things. We ate a local restaurant in Getsemani and it was delicious. There is also a street in Getsemani where there are umbrellas are hanging above and it was very colorful.

Barrio Getsemani is a great neighborhood to practically do it all depending your purpose in Cartegena. It's a great location near the historical fort. It's filled with hostel of various sizes, budget, designs. There's plenty of restuarants, cafes in the area to satisfy your appetite. The streets are varied to wide to narrow filled with art murals on the wall, umbrella skies and everything in between. It would defitnitely would be a choice neighborhood for me to live in, so visiting it makes it more of a fun getaway.

This 2 hours experience goes to Getsemaní the bohemian and coolest neighborhood in Cartagena and visits the most representatives places in the neighborhood like, murals, main square, eat some local fruit and learn how to make the coconut lemonade, murals that show daily activities and interaction with the community. Besides the very interesting history and controversial topics that locals and Colombians fase daily. This is the perfect place to hook up Cartagena´s culture.

Getsemani has become the artsy, party neighborhood of Cartagena. There are vivid, painted murals, street performers, street vendors and crowds in the evenings, especially Friday and Saturday. Bright and vibrant. In some ways it reminded me of the French Quarter of New Orleans, without jazz but with
Colombian music and vibe.

Not a whole lot to see, per se, but it was interesting and is worthwhile visiting. The district has a bohemian flavor entrenched by the sheer number of hostels, street graffiti/art mixed in with impromptu party scenes.

A walk-through is definitely recommended…
