Stay away . I wanted aviary tour which is 9:30 am to 12. They dragged us at 6:15 am to beach for no reason . We had to sit and wait for 3 hrs and order coffee at beach . Who drinks coffee at beach . It’s bcoz they dragged us 6:15 am in morning . Better off staying away from this aviary tour and take another one .

Amazing Local Agency

We used Juan Ballena twice. Once for an airport transfer and once again for the trip to Coralina Island. Both times everything was organized so well, and our transportation arrived early and waited for us. If you had any issues, they gave you an emergency number that was also on Whatsapp, and they immediately picked up and were able to answer questions. Highly recommend this agency especially over other big brands like Viator and Get your Guide.

Palenque -- best experience!

This was my favorite part of my visit in Cartagena. Our driver was prompt. However, the name & license was mixed up from our email confirmation so we did not find him until 10 minutes later. The ride was smooth both ways. Our on site guide, Alberto, was super knowledge and friendly. The lunch was AMAZING. I really enjoyed learning about Palenque and the history.

Disorganized, waste of money and time!

We took an Aviary and Playa Blanca beach tour. There was a strike with the drivers in Cartagena so they had the highway blocked into Playa Blanca. Instead of canceling they offered to take us to Playa Blanca by boat. We were asked to pay an additional amount for the boat service to the island. There begins the terrible experience of this tour. The guide never informed us of what was going on and we were all left to wonder about our itinerary at every stop we made. There was no planned transportation to and from the aviary. The guide had to negotiate transportation for our group of 5. We had to walk around with her to find transportation while she literally negotiated the price. The boat trip back was a terrifying nightmare of a ride back. The waters were choppy and the captain was careless in the way he navigated the waters. We were sent flying over waves and slamming our backs into the wooden benches on the boat multiple times, while the captain laughed. It was a waste of money and time. I wish I would have gone with my initial gut instinct and cancelled when I was informed of the strike.

A waste of time and money

We waited for over 30 minutes for the other group traveling to Nena Beach Club. First, we booked for a departure at 7:00am, to try and beat crowds. Later we were told departure would be at 9:30. So, we arrived to the meeting point at 9:30. We did not depart to the beach until 10:10am because the other party was running late. In the end, the other party was so big there weren’t even enough seats in the van. For the price, you would be much better off just getting an Uber to the beach and doing away with this company.

Responsive Vendor with Plenty of Options

Just got back from Cartagena. We booked the airport transport (roundtrip) and the Catamaran trip to the Rosario Islands. The company was great - very responsive on WhatsApp during my stay in the country. There were other vendors where the response times were a little delayed in my experience but not with Juan Ballena. They answered all my questions and also re-confirmed all my reservations with them. When I go back to Cartagena, I plan to use them again. I fully recommend.

Coralina Island Day Trip

My boyfriend and I booked a tour to Coralina Island for the day and it was just what we were looking for! The driver picked us up at the hotel promptly and took us to the PORT. There are signs and waiting areas for each island destination. The people working the areas are very communicative and pleasant. We waited for about 30 minutes for the boat to be ready. You are transported to the island with some people that are going for day, people that are going for a few nights to the hotel and people that work at the hotel. The ride to the hotel is about an hour a bit choppy wet and windy. We didnt mind, but if you are prone to motion sickness, please take this into consideration.
Once we got to the island, we were greeted with a glass of wine and briefed on the amenities they offer. They have extra activities they offer like massages, snorkeling, kayak use, a visit to the aquarium if interested. We took the snorkeling option at a small cost and enjoyed our activity very much!! We got back and enjoyed a delicious lunch(which was included) and just relaxed by the beautiful sea. They have a bar with a variety of alcoholic beverages, I recommend the COCO LOCO!! Coralina Island is more of a quiet and relaxing part of all the island, so if you are looking for a beach club, this isnt it. Juan Ballena Travel surely has plenty of options for you that you will enjoy!! THANK YOU! We had relaxing time!

a good safeguard

With a group of 6 we did 2 tours with Juan Ballena -- a day trip to Gente de Mar resort and birdwatching in La Boquilla. Both times they were really easy to communicate with, their driver showed up early, and both trips were successful. I get the feeling they choose their partner businesses well, whether hotels or tours, and they are very responsive by phone/WhatsApp. Using them to help plan a trip is a good safeguard against probably a lot of sleazy purveyors in Cartagena. You may pay slightly more and it's worth it.

I am so thankful for Estefi's help at Juan Ballena Travel experiences. She helped my family book a private tour guide, a mangrove fishing tour, and a swim in the mud volcano! Everything was fantastic!! She also helped me to schedule a COVID test at our hotel to meet the USA requirement for re-entry. I felt very taken care of at every turn! We loved out trip to Cartagena!
