Not a particularly large place, but it has a really lovely traditional garden. It also has a rather interesting history - being the site of a famous romantic tragedy of an equally famous historical figure. I found it fascinating how good officials can be remembered years after they have passed away.

It's a huge area that is a wonderful Chinese garden. It takes a full half day to enjoy the peace and beauty of this garden. I would not have come here if a relative had not started a part of this garden

Just down the Road from the Luxun Residence, this garden is a beautiful place to pause in the city. Full of little pavilions amidst lush gardens, these were fantastic places to get out of the summer heat. There are a few cafes dotted around the garden as well.

Just about 300 meters from the Lu Xun historic area, Shen Garden is a very peaceful place with lots of trees and rocks. There were no flowers but the usual stone pathways, small ponds, and pavilions common in Chinese gardens. I can't say it was more spectacular than Suzhou or Wuxi gardens. There was no one there on the day... More

This is an astonishingly beautiful and tranquil garden - almost more of a 'park', much more spacious than almost any of the famous and supposedly more attractive Suzhou gardens. The admission is cheap-as-chips, and - if you avoid weekends and major holidays - there are not usually too many other people around. It has a reputation as "the most romantic... More

Pleasant place and reasonably peaceful but certainly not one of the best gardes to be seen in China, too much telling you about its past and what was there before rather than sticking to what is there now.

In terms of Shaoxing tourism, it seems that the Lu Xun house is easily the biggest drawcard, but for us, we preferred the Shen Yuan (Shen Garden). This ancient garden is many hundreds of years older than the LuXun Hometown. In fact, archaeological excavation suggests that this was already a garden during the Tang Dynasty, 1000 years ago. On display... More

This one is not as beautiful as the gardens in Suzhou, but worth your while if you're in Shaoxing. Just across the street from Luxun's old neighborhood, it's a nice place for a relaxing stroll with the usual lotus ponds, pavilions, corridors and flower gardens.
