It is impresionant. It reminds mr the “portico de la Gloria” in Santiago de Compostela, because there are even lines of budist figures with instruments. There are a lot of details in every of the more than 60 grutes. Of course the 18 meters budas are impresionantes.

Amazing how some of the statues are preserved! They have done there best to maintain them. I was very impressed! We weren't allowed to take pictures of them all but just being there to see them was awesome! If you are near Datong this is a must!

In Trip Advisor there are two different places worth see - Yungang and Wugantun Grotto - but it's the same!
Nevertheless it's breath taking place.

The grotto is the third largest of its kind in China. It has also been designated a UNESCO world heritage site. From the tastefully designed entrance to the use of discreet earpieces used for guiding and perhaps the absence of the usual loud and pushy crowds, we had a very enjoyable tour of this very impressive site be it in terms of sheer scale of the grotto, the well preserved artefacts and most significantly the sense of being immersed in such grand history and culture. We spent an entire afternoon here exploring the many nooks and crannies.

This province is so blessed to have so many treasures to share. Such a sight to see how handicraft from so many years ago can still be appreciated in our modern world. Have to remind everyone that cameras are not allowed in most covered grottos, even without flash and they can get nasty if someone tries. One of the main grottos is closed for upkeep but there are many more to see. We do not know anything about Buddhism but get out with a new insight into how this religion must have touched people. This one and the grotto in Luoyang are comparable and similar. Cannot wait to see the one in denhuang.

I arranged a 14 day trip to China with China Highlights and DaTong was one of the cities we visited for one night / two days. It is a must stopover for anyone visiting China as the history and development in the area is phenomenal.

The tour was made even better with the help of our guide Lee Ann who was from the area and filled us in with all the details. Her knowledge and enthusiam on the city and the attractions was great and we thoroughly enjoyed her company.

Amazing place, definately worth the visit. The details carved into the rock are great. The restoration work to bring it back to how it originally was has been done with a lot of care. It is a medium walk to the Budas but you can hire like a golf cart to take you in. When you are leaving there is a good souvenir market.

I have seen it through TV, and before I go there, I thought I will not have any feeling while I see it, but I was wrong.
You will be amazed by the craft and the history, and it blew my mind.

Amazing! So many Buddha statues immaculately carved by such skilled craftsmen. And so many different sizes! A very peaceful and tranquil place. A must see on any tour to China.

It is incredible to see all these many status carved from the mountain. Some of the status are well preserved, even after so many years. Truly deserved to be the UNESCO Heritage site! The park is large, so it does not feel so crowded.
