Entrance fee is 10 RMB.
Its restored and gives you feeling of the Asien time. You can walk up and have a 360 degree view around. Inside are also some old pictures of the city and new drawings of some sightseeing spots around. The location is very central to other spots. In the area around a lot of restore work is ongoing so some renovation spots will be open or other are close due to that work.

Thanks for reading my review and I hope it was helpful for your trip.

When in Datong if you are not afraid by very vertical stairs (quite impressive) you can climb to the drum tower
It's in the middle of a turnabout
Be careful crossing the road

This is not a must see but is worth the visit if you happen to be in the area. We were staying at the Garden Hotel just down the street and so it was an easy walk. At only 10 yuan to enter, it's pretty cheap. When we arrived, the ticket lady was asleep, and nobody but staff was actually in the place. There are some very steep stairs--ladder like, actually--that lead to the second and third stories of the tower. There are some photos of old Datong which were quite interesting if you've been in Datong for a couple of days to have a reference point. There is also a drum which you can bang on. The views at the top are nice.

Really interesting and beautiful, and best of all unexpected. Ladders inside to climb to the top but was fine for the kids (11 & 14). Beautiful inside, great views of old quarter area.

The tower is in excellent condition. The stairs to the top story are very steep and narrow, but worth the effort to climb them. Just be careful. You get a good view of the old town.

Situated in the 'theme park' of the new 'old Datong' this is just near the Garden hotel, and we were assured is an actual ancient bell tower. In the middle of a crossroads.

In the centre of the wall part of Datong, the drum is large but not the main attraction. You can climb some VERY steep steps up to the top of the tower, you get a good four sided view of the town.
I would recommend you go to the top.

A nice landmark to visit as part of a visit to the old town area. Not one of my top attractions in Datong but doesn't take long to see
