An enjoyable weekend hike to the base of the giant Buddha. We took a scenic cable car ride down. We also toured the thousand Buddha cave, and I now understand how that name came about.

The Qianfoshan (Thousand Buddha Mountain), is Jinan’s largest downtown park. The mountain includes about 130 Buddha statues carved during the Sui Dynasty (581-618 AD), a Ten Thousand Buddha Cave at the foot of the northern slope, and other statues and buildings from 2,000 years ago. The big golden statue of Buddha is beautiful and the mountain is an awesome place to take panoramic views of Jinan, especially at sunset. The climb up takes about 30 minutes walking. There is also an option of taking a bus or cable car. The Confucius Restaurant at Qianfoshan provides excellent vegan and non-vegan food as well as tea, wine, and beer and its right at the entrance of the park.

We did not expect to find a so nice corner in Jinan. We bad just few hours to spend sightseeing and the visit of the park was nice: a lot of typical products and above sll the huge HaHa Buddah and the Thousand Buddahs cave made the trip very pleasant!

If you had read my review on Longmen gouge, this is not the same. I didn't know that until I visited here.

Took a cable car up the hill and after climbing hundreds of stairs, then realized that they have "cut" the "better preserved carving" and placed them in the temple.

There is also a cave like place (Qianfodong) which also have a lot of carving; which I believe is quite recent, and worth seeing

Definitely would not recommend if you are on a tight schedule in the city of Jinan: there are better places to go. Otherwise it can be a pleasant little destination to spend 5-6 hours. My biggest issue with the place is that it feels very manufactured, most statues were created recently. And there are additional charges to visit the cave, though quite impressive endeavor, a nice reproduction of 4 of the most famous cave/stone carvings in China. In any case, it was kind of nice, nevertheless fake, though maybe it’s too strong a word...

Went there with my family. We had to take a cable car call because my 4-year son was with us. Surprisingly the cable car offered us a very good bird view of Jinan. We prayed at the Xinguo Temple. Over all quite relaxing
