Shandong is one of the oldest regions of Chinese civilization so there's plenty to see at the modern Shandong Museum. Although it's to the east of the city center, it's worth a trip to see the historical exhibits. Free entry certainly adds to the allure.

This free museum holds hundreds of exquisite artifacts including bronzes, the clothing of royalty, ceramics, sculpture, calligraphy. One gallery shows prehistoric life in its exhibit. In addition to their fine permanent collection, they also have special exhibits.

We had a great time at this museum. We learned a lot about Jinan and China in general. It was worth the visit just to see the jade ceiling. We had an English Tour Guide who did an amazing job.
