Some travellers to China say they get "templed out", meaning they've seen so many temples that they all start to look and feel the same. This temple is like a lot of temples in East China and elsewhere in the country but it has an added attraction: it's in a charming old city with a canal AND it's right beside a big, beautiful, garden area with a lake. The temple in combination with the other nearby attractions is fantastic.

As a resident in Wuxi for 12 months - this is one of my favorite places for a regular visit.
You can find the best value gifts and souvenirs in this area and its just an entertaining few hours out - with lots to see every time.
First there is the Temple - which is a living temple open to the public attracting tourists and worshipers alike. It is a very beautiful small temple with pagoda. Then there is the surrounding temple district shopping area. Its fun to spend time just wandering around and poking your nose into the mix of traditional and modern shops and stalls. On the river side (to your right if you enter under the main gate) there are many places to eat - sit down restaurants as well as a multitude of street food vendors - food is cheap and its all great. On the complete opposite side of the market area there is the Pet market - an eye opening experience (and perhaps a little shocking) for foreign visitors. Its great to visit any day of the week - but on weekends has the added bonus of having additional street market stalls, If you have a curious nature and a bit of time you can also wander around the back streets and check out the tea shops or find one of Wuxi's huge fresh fruit and vegi markets and the live fish market - this is a truly local cultural experience.

A great place to spend 4 hours. In addition to the temple and the shopping stalls, the canal tour, the nearby pedestrian street, and the adjacent old Miaoguang market street are all worth your time. Easily accessible from the Wuxi Metro system.

The temple if one of the many sites to explore while visiting Wuxi - nice to both see its architecture and art but also to do some people watching. Outside of the temple there are some small market stalls selling all sort of fruit and nicknacks

Nanchan temple was built during the time of the Southern Dynasties, which lasted from 420 – 589 AD.
The area around Nanchan temple is today dominated by Nanchang Street, Wuxi’s lovely canal-side pedestrianised area.
Nanchang Street itself would make any list of what to do in Wuxi (pronounced woo-she), being a great place to spend a chilled day walking, eating, drinking, and people watching.
The Temple is free to enter however there is a small charge (10 RMB) to climb the pagoda, but it’s worth it – especially as some temples don’t open their pagodas up to the public.
Inside you’ll find graffiti-covered walls and steep, rickety stairs with low doorways and ceilings.

The Nanchan Temple of Wuxi is awesome. The temple and the markets are great. However when we visited Nanchan Temple, we discovered a super great street called Nanchan Street. Many cafes and bars are located there, along with many super interesting fine shops there. Fabulous. Never miss it.

Our group from CWG Travel spent a week in Wuxi. This college town has a lot to offer away from the hustle and bustle of nearby ShangHai. The Nanchan Temple was a great stop. There are LOTS of places to shop and eat. Once inside, there are many places to get that converted selfie. There are shows/performances at different scheduled times though the day. Weather permitting, you can really spend an entire day at this location.

No special about the temple. But around it have lot of restaurants and food stalls, even antiques and souvenirs can found a lot here.

This is a very nice place to visit. It does stretch for quite awhile and I've yet to completely figure it out. Expect to get a little lost. But that is not a negative at all. There is so much to see and do here. Proper restaurants and food stalls, antiques, shopping for young and old alike.

I have been to Wuxi several time for short business trip but only has chance to stay near this area during my last 2 trips. Totally changed my impression of Wuxi, from a boring to a place I now look forward to if I need to go Wuxi again.
The routine things I had done for my last 5 days business trips: Had dinner at Grandma (外婆家），went massage at 紫鼎养生会官（Ziding Health Preservation Chamber). 3 times a week :)
All too good and cheap to resist. For those who love massage, you can book Wang Shifu (male), Li Yan Shifu (female) or Li Shifu (male). The massage place is not too easy to find as you have to go by the right staircase (to level 3), near Watson at NanChan Temple.
