Hanshan Temple is more beautiful than the famous gardens of Suzhou as the area around the temple is well-decorated and framed by the famous canals of the region. Small streets feature snacks and silk scarves. An uplifting experience.

This is a famous temple in Suzhou, which attracts many tourists every day.Hanshan Temple has many unique features of Suzhou,For example, the tiles on the roof, the huge ancient Chinese bell, and the Buddhas believed in in China. There's a famous poem about Hanshan Temple, It's A night-mooring near maple bridge(枫桥夜泊 in Chinese)
Beside,Hanshan Temple will ring the ancient bell during the Chinese New Year to signify the arrival of the new year.
Hanshan Temple seems to be human, and it feels calm and quiet, like an old man who has experienced many vicissitudes.

月落乌啼霜满天,江枫渔火对愁眠,姑苏城外寒山寺,夜半钟声到客船。

This historical Mahayana Buddhism temple is well-known nationwide and it is perhaps not surprising that the above poem is associated with it.

Despite this historical context, you will not find any English tour guide here, which is not great if you don’t understand Chinese. The land area isn’t big too, but if you want to visit a historically well known local temple and see devotees visiting and praying, this is the place to be,

We came in the evening, just before closing time. Just arrived in Suzhou then and stayed in the Fengqiao scenic area. It was a bit of a rush, but we did managed to take a look around, even if it was only for about an hour.

While our tour group was in Suzhou, we visited the Hanshan Temple. It was very interesting and I was more impressed with Hanshan Temple than with some of the other temples and pagodas that we had visited. The Hanshan Temple seems to be in better shape, with better paint and decorations and better maintained than some of the others we had seen. I was also impressed with the flower arrangements inside and outside the temple and the Buddhas and statues inside the temple were impressive. The ponds and fish collection were interesting and seemed to be a big draw for the local youth. I was impressed with the architecture of the Temple and adjoining buildings, as well as the fish pond and bridges nearby. Only a small area of land, the Hanshan Temple makes a big impression on any, and all, visitors!

It is a nice temple with several areas to visit. Because it is a famous temple the place can be a bit crowded. You can buy tickets starting at 8AM. Beware there is a park (free) and a temple. This is not the same place. The tablet with the Famous poem is in the Free park and not in the temple. 20 RMB to enter the temple

Packed with tourists on the weekend but go during the weekday and you can actually slow down and enjoy the scenery and art.

The Temple is a beautiful place to visit. It is larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. You can't take pictures of some of the statues for respectful religious reasons - while most might try with the cameras, I find that sacred places should be treated with respect and I enjoy the venue for those reasons.
