Finally, after much trial and error (mainly error) a decent strength coffee in Suzhou! All coffees are double shots made with fresh milk. Right up there with good NZ/ Aussie flat whites. There is comfy seating upstairs, but I liked the few tables downstairs so that you could people watch along Pingjiang Rd. Staff are friendly and engaging and there are nice postcards and coffee cups on sale too. All this makes for a relaxed atmosphere an on a hot humid day the air conditioning is a VERY welcome relief.

There are also a couple of cats to snuggle if that's your thing. :) Definitely my thing.

After a hot and crowded afternoon we escaped the heat by going to this cosy place. They have different teas, waffles, coffees ... The atmosphere is very relaxed and there is soothing music. You can also buy postcards, write them while sipping some tea and the people there are very willing to help you. Waiting times are sometimes quite long.

Very well placed by the canal, with young ,eager staff, this is a popular place for students and the young at hapeart to "hang out", drink tea, do their study, emails, or even write the odd letter. BUT, beware, I have discovered that in Suzhou a "muffin" is not a muffin...and black tea isn't necessarily black. The alternates are in no way unpleasant, they are just not what you'd expect (from my home town). Not a problem...this place is worth.a few hours of your leisure time while in this lovely district.

The location is a delight, and the ambiance is relaxing. Check out the construction of the service counter.

interesting cafe' where they try to combine coffee with... books and postcards.
part bookstore and part coffee shop.

unfortunately the service is very slow (gives the feeling they really don't know what they are doing), it took them 15 minutes to make a simple espresso and only served the cup handheld, which tasted very very light. This for a 25元 coffee!

Anyhow the place has potential.

There are two branches along the Ping Jiang Street. I went to both branches during my 3 days in Su Zhou. I highly recommend to try their milk tea. I had Thai Milk Tea, which by add RMB25 (If I'm not mistaken) you can choose a cute cup as souvenir. If you love dessert, try the tiramisu. It has a different texture as their tiramisu has a layer of ice cream sandwich in the middle. Nice treat for summer.
The cafe also sell interesting machandise. I bought many postcards. You can also send a letter or postcard to yourselves or someone else. The design of the cafe layout is interesting as well. I got lucky to get a corner seat and spend few hours of quiet time for journal. The cafe soon get very crowded (like many places in China) in the afternoon. So you might want to go to the cafe during odd hours.
I think the cafe can surely earn a 5 stars if the staffs can be friendlier and improve the overall ambience.

I didn't get any food or drinks at this cafe, nor read any books. For me the main attraction was the postcards. One of my students told me about this little cafe so when I happened upon it while I was in Suzhou, I had to go inside. You can mail yourself (or anyone else) a postcard at a later date. There is a big wall with 365 cubbies, you get the idea.
