The single best renovation of the city is its city moat and the walking path along it. Just a great place for morning jogging and the best place to see the city and people. Everyone, not only tourist, should try it.

The ancient city moat surrounds Suzhou on 4 sides of a NESW square and you can walk it on an exercise trail. I suspect that most of the reviews of boat trips on the Grand Canal at Suzhou actually refer to the city moat, so check out those reviews too. The walk from Xumen Gate in the west, to Panmen Gate in the SW corner is very pleasant.

If you like a long, quiet walk, then this is a great place in Suzhou. The Suzhou moat has a "fitness trail" running along its 15 km perimeter. We walked a fraction of it, but would love to explore more of it. It's a scenic route and the views of the old town wall, gardens and the moat make the walk varied and pleasant.

It's a beautiful scene at night, the old city surrounded by this river/moat. The lights on the old structures are gorgeous, and at night, the streets are alive with food options, shops, nice restaurants, and a lot of people. You can also take a boat ride (water taxi) along this moat, through the old section - it is where it feels most like Venice.

The moat and an old gate comprises what Chinese people calls "scenic area". In this area you can find a pleasant road to walk, the city walls and different places for dancing or for making some exercise! A lot of Chinese people gathered here for social life and it was very lively. A good place to go if you have some spare time in Suzhou.

I greatly enjoyed this location. It was neat to see the city lit up and get a view from different parts of the old city walls. It was one of the few areas that were not too crowded when I was there.

The Suzhou City Moat is not too far from the train station and you can easily walk to it. Once you get here you can walk around this place and also take a boat ride. The moat is really historic and really iconic. Its true beauty shines at night once the lights get on.

The scenic moat around the city walls is bordered by a pleasant walkway that includes at different points fitness equipment, playground equipment and somebody’s laundry line. It also incorporates some rocks like those of the Garden of Stone Lions and quite handsome Japanese maples. It’s a quiet shaded way to walk from the train station, avoiding the traffic and vendors.

There's a great walkway that follows the river around the ancient city. At certain sections you can see the old city wall, which is nicely lit up. Would recommend at night to see the lights and cool down. Only negative is it's a bit crowded and there are some sections that are a little dangerous- eg. no guardrail. Watch out when with kids.
