Saint Sofia church is as stunning as it looks in the photos, perhaps because it is in China! Inside is “distressed” with some paintings and decoration but somehow all the more stunning as a result. The church doubles up as an art gallery - displaying atmospheric paintings of old Harbin when we visited - and our visit, as for a previous reviewer, was considerably enhanced by a wonderful solo pianist. There is a small entry fee. The church is located in a big square with a couple of unusual structures but not as attractive as the church itself

International level attractions. Byzantine style, Orthodox style church. It has a rare onion-style roof. You can pay a fee to visit the church during the day. There are early murals and live piano music, which is sacred and spectacular. There are also concert performances in the church at night, which you must not miss. There is also a cafe in the square outside. If you are tired from walking, you can have a drink or an authentic Madier popsicle, which is also very good. There is also a Toulong wholesale mall nearby, which has a complete range of supplies and can be replenished.

Harbin is unique compared to many cities we have been to in China. You can see the history and Russian influence throughout the city. There are many gems around every corner. We wanted to see Saint Sophia so we ventured out our first night in town pretty cold out but so worth seeing this stunning structure with the lights. The property has a couple of other architectural photographic buildings as well.

Our 12 and 14 year old American daughters even forgot about the cold for a while as they admired the church.

It was unique view of a Catholic church in China. Unfortunately we could not go inside due to maintenance. Even the view from outside was breathe taking. A surprise to see such a building in China.

A beautiful cathedral. Just such a shame you can't go inside. Was quite busy here, also had the skeleton infrastructure of something like a train station next door. An interesting place to spend half an hour!

Lovely in the outside in a very nice square. Inside seems to be untouched for Many years. Some paintings and a Russian musician. But is only RMB2 to get in

This church is nice for a photo outside whilst in Harbin, and inside photos chart a history of Harbin. There are some interesting photos but it would be much better if there were some translations in places. The interactive screens do have English, but that's about it. You could probably spend a maximum of an hour in here, primarily as a way to get out of the cold!

I visited the church in the summer of 2005. It is a beautiful building and well worth taking the time to see. Inside there are paintings and some enlarged photos that are interesting. I think its a must see when in Harbin.

Different from the many European style Churches/Cathedral that I've visited. The exterior design and color of this Cathedral has shown Russia's influence on the area's culture and history. However, the building is still under renovation and no entry is allowed. Suggest to take a 20-30mins break at the Sophia Square to observe the people and this bustling area.

Very beautiful Church unfortunately it is no longer used as a church. The interior is filled with old photos and some miniature buildings (basically a museum). It cost 20 yuan per pax to enter the church.
