About
Harbin Ice Lantern Show was founded in 1963, it is the oldest and largest Ice Lantern Show in the world nowadays. The show usually starts from early January to the end of February. Lots of artists make use of the original ice from Songhua River to create various ice sculptures. Besides hanging around the big park (around 2000 square meters) to see thousands of stunning ice arts, you can also try some ice sports, or even have an ice wedding.

I enjoyed the ice lanterns in Zhaolin Park even more than the Ice and Snow World. Here, the focus isn't on grand structures, but more delicate carvings of ice into all sorts of different forms--winged goddess, fisherman rowing their boats, smirking animals. The sculptures themselves are not illuminated, but each has an ice lantern to either side with lights embedded in them. The central moat was frozen over, allowing the kids to skate and sled which made it a very family atmosphere. When I visited it was also free. There are no food stalls at the park, but it's in the middle of the city, so if you get hungry just wander out and grab a bite.

This is far the top attraction. You can skip something else but do not miss this. This took my breath away. But it needs to be done at night. Dress warmly.

Dress warm and then enjoy the sculptures and the food! The ice exhibits are fantastic, at night, when lit with the various colored lights. Sleigh rides are available too.

The information we found online about the different festival sites was a little confusing, but we decided to check out this site on our first evening. It was beautiful admiring all the many sculptures, and fun to stop in to drink a beer out of an ice mug! We're glad that we went to see this site before we went to Ice and Snow world - the bigger festival area - as we think this would have been a bit of a disappointment had we seen the sights the other way around.

I just visited the Ice Light Garden Party this early March. So special the ice lanterns were though some part of them was melted, not so perfect.

I felt like a seal or a penguin with the kind of layers I was wearing to go to the Ice Light Garden Party, but it all seemed worth it. The sculptures were beautiful, pieces of art created from ice that can be compared to any great work in the world. Its a pity these have to come down as the temperatures rise.

I completely recommend a trip to the Ice Festival

The ice garden is a nice place but very artificial: it is neon lights within ice blocks. The slides are done nicely and some sculptures like an ice bus are also fun but it is very commercial and not very refined. The snow sculptures are more refined.
