After finding that it was closed, went to Jiumenkou Great Wall. It’s about 15km via a winding road from Shanhaiguan, but worth the effort as a rebuilt section of the wall goes across a river and you can see original sections rise up the mountains.

IT was sad to travel there by Didi and then finding out that it was closed. No idea when they will open it again but, better ask before if you want to visit it.

Farely steep section of the Great Wall. Also has a cable car which was not working during the time of our visit. Definitely one of the best sections of the Great Wall

I have been there and observed with other entrance or points of the "Great Wall of China". This pass has another historical value that one must observe, one must feel!

This was the Third Section of the Great Wall we visited during a day trip to Qinhuangdao and it was by far the best.

All the tourists had gone to the two easier sections of the wall which left it almost deserted. There are some challenging parts that are rather steep. Even one area where you have to go up and down ladders to get to the next part. There is a pathway that follows the wall which is easier to traverse if you cannot deal with steep staircases.

We had some challenges getting here. Several locals in the city center told us this section wasn't open and a taxi driver even took us to the wrong section. I am not sure if there is public transportation that goes to this section but it is about a 10RMB ride from the city center of Shanhuaigan.

Bring lots of water, especially in summer as it is quite hot climbing the stairs.

I've been to many spots along the Great Wall and this is my favorite. Both times I've gone it has been during May and the scenery is beautiful due to Qinhuangdao's lower levels of smog, and there have been few people there. One of the only truly quiet places I've visited in China. The walk up is tough, but worth it.

This attraction is a 5-10 minute taxi from the main Walled City area of Shanhaiguan. It is where the wall makes the 1st traverse up a mountain. Once in, you can either take a cable car to the top, or hike up the wall itself. I choose the wall going up and then a middle dirt path down (watch out for the huge spiders though!). It is definitely physically demanding to go up the wall. It is steep and not really any specific safety measures.

The climb though is really awesome though, you finally make it to the first tower where you climb a ladder up and get some spectacular views out over the city and mountains. I then went down the other ladder and continued on to the next tower. From here they walled off the way, so you can't go on the wall anymore. The wall quickly deteriorates and looks more dangerous on that section (though I saw a few kids jump the no climbing signs and walked along this section).

From here you can head towards the cable car to head down or take a middle path that leads down next to the wall. I choose the latter and it was fine.

This is really a great section of wall, it was not too crowded, so easy to take it all in and not get frustrated by tons of tourist. Worth it for sure!

Amazing place. We visited it in peak season (July 2016) and it was almost empty. Go by bus to "First pass under the heaven" and than take taxi (it is not expensive).
Buy ticket with chairlift and than go down on wall. It is difficult, when it s hot weather, but i want to visit it again!!!

Climbing the wall at that place is really a challenge as its slope is amazing. At the top the view pays off the hard walk upstairs.

Worth the trip to get there. The architecture is mesmerizing. Went in the spring and the weather was perfect.
