We love the night view of Phoenix Island. We can easily cross the bridge from Sanya city by taxi. But we choose enjoyed the night view from Sanya beach.
Visited on August 2019.

The Phoenix Island was ok and not overly exciting. We were able to get on easily with a Didi and walked around to check the grounds. There are many pools here and it would be a nice place to provide a mini escape from the city but I would recommend Yalong Bay area resorts if you want a real escape.

Many of the shops and items you can buy are overpriced relative to the city. We expected a private beach on the island but could not find one. The buildings look quite nice from a distance and light up at night as well.

You can go in for brunch or dinner, better use taxi to go in.

Make sure to be dressed nicely and you would be able to walk around and experience the place without a problem.
There is an amazing view lounge on 32 floor in one of the hotels. Entry in the evening is paid, but it's a nice place to chill, have a cocktail and take nice pictures (you have to be 18 years old to enter)

We went in the evening, they have kids playgrounds (small though), pool and restaurants which you can visit a-la-cart.

Only people who live, work or are off a cruise ship can enter the island. There is a gate and a guard at the bridge. Still it is a very nice place to see. There are no taxi's on the island, so you will have to find other transport off and on. You can walk across the bridge but it will take you about 20 - 30 minutes.

Phoenix Island has been transformed into another touch of the Arab world in China. I first noticed it at the Sheraton Qingyuan Lion Lake Resort, which looks like and very much has the feel of being at a nice resort somewhere in the Arab world. We enjoyed our time walking and touring it close to four square kilometers of surface land area, its most beautiful resort, and water rides around the island. There are lots of eateries offering numerous types of fresh seafood.

We took a cable car up the hill. There were many steps leading up the route. The Chinese guide gave us a comprehensive description of the geography of Sanya. The walk was scenic.

This artificial island is easily visible from Sanya Bay. Some interesting architecture with the row of unusual buildings to see. Getting to the island itself seems to be restricted - I didn't try my luck to see if the security guards at the entrance to the bridge would let me walk across.

The five tall buildings on Phoenix Island used to all light up at night with moving pictures. On my recent trip, only two buildings did so, alternating each night.

Perhaps they are trying to save electricity, which is fine. Also, there are some new buildings in Sanya which also light up with moving pictures at night, so maybe the novelty has worn off.

It is still beautiful to watch, however.
