The main attraction of Xi Dao is the adjoining small Niuwang Dao (island) sporting a massive eponymous golden bull on its summit. A pleasant excursion with some good views, fresh sea air and a busy open air food stall on the little island. The main island appears to lack much charm and promotes many activities which didn't seem to attract any punters. Ferry leaves just West of Sanya airport. Make sure to get there by mid-morning. When we returned at 3:00pm, the outbound ferries were heaving

A speed boat whisks you to the West Island which is gradually being developed for leisure and tourism. It was very popular with the Chinese, I don't recall seeing any other westerners. You can hire bikes to see the island - we went for the buggy option. There are pleasant walks to take with lovely ocean views and a busy beach area with parascending and jet skis. There was a low price seafood buffet that won't win any culinary awards but kept the hunger at bay. You can also SCUBA dive there.

I went to West Island with hopes to swim and snorkel with the family, but this was not possible. When we got there only a very small part of the beach was open to swim in and no snorkeling was possible, only scuba diving. The island which could have been a pristine beauty was over commercialized with; jet ski, parasailing, banana boats and so fort. The boat trip is 144 RMB pr person and all water sports are over prized. Not worth the time or the money.

Bus loads of local tourists. Boat ride is expensive and not worth the money to see the island. Need more creativity in its facilities and souvenir shops. restaurants have pooe hygience and caters only to locals. Poorly managed and maintained. Not suitable for international tourists.

We wanted to spend at least one of the days during our vacation swimming in a clear sea. So we took a speed boat from the Xidao Wharf, which was 95 RMB for a round-trip, and spent the whole day there.
This place was really beautiful, water was turquoise and so clear, we could see mackerel snooping around the pier.
I would say it was the cleanest beach around Sanya, with sand basically of sea-ground corals and shells. It was gloomy and rainy on the opposite shore when we enjoyed sun baths on the West island beaches.
After that we took a ride (35 RMB for a round-trip) along the seaside with a destination point at the little adjacent island.
The whole place basically is more than just a touristic spot, it has its own history. During the WWII it was a military base of Chinese, then Japanese troops, so you would find catacombs and fortifications during your journey around the island. Most of them are closed nowadays, but we found an opened one right under the hill with a golden bull on the top.
I'd highly recommend this place if you got tired of the overcrowded beaches in Sanya. It's really worth visiting.

The beach is nice, the water rides are there to be enjoyed but the prices are a little high. We managed to bargain the prices a bit.

We did not buy any of the activities as they are expensive, but we did walk over the island and the adjoining mini-island where we took some beautiful pictures. This place is hot, hot, hot. Please wear a large brimmed hat, take a towel to wipe the sweat and use a sunbrella if you have one in the hotter months.
This is a very nice place to visit however. You will not be disappointed and if you have kids they will love all the things to do here as will adults who do not mind spending the money.

Подскажите пожалуйста, как добраться до скоростного катера? Остановились в Wyndham sanya bay
Written 3 November 2016
Apple maps отлично работают. Скоростные катера отходят от Xidao Warf каждые 20 мин., стоимость 95 юаней туда-обратно.
