The ferry tickets is expensive and it is become popular these years, better to avoid the peak tourist seasons. There are beautiful bronzing volcanic rocks, green trees and blue clear sea. The dry seafood is very good and I bought some salt fish and dry Sha Chong(a kind of special seafood in Beihai)as gifts.

We were staying in Beihai and decided to visit Weizhou Island. We bought the ferry tickets at CNY 330 per person the day before. Out we were 1st class and back we were 2nd class (seats a bit smaller and views not so good). We caught the 09.00 boat and took 75 minutes on a calm sea to arrive at... More

Weizhou Island has to be visited if you are in Beihai. I visited it with 2 children and I warmly suggest it. Many people spend a night on it, maybe it's the best way. We stayed one whole day. We took the boat at 9.00 am to go and the one at 17.30 (5.30 pm) to go back. The one... More

but difficult and expensive to get to... (RMB300 return for the boat plus RMB150 for the entry). Scooters are easy and cheap to rent once you get there. You need to be able to speak Cantonese/Mandarin. Tourism is very underdeveloped to say the least and is limited to stays at hotels. The sea seems to have an array of wildlife... More

Long 90 minute ferry ride to a sparsely inhabited island with some unusual rock formation and an old Western style church. If you need a break from travelling, a couple of night's stay here will surely rejuvenate!!
