This is the location of the secret unofficial cultural revolution museum. As it wasn't on any maps it was pretty difficult finding the place, but you can take bus 102 from Shantou and ask for this place instead (Tashan Park) instead. It's all in Chinese so recommend you go with an interpreter - fascinating stuff. The park is pretty too.

The main reason we went to Tashan was to see the "secret" Cultural Revolution Museum, reportedly the only one of it's kind in China. I only knew about this museum due to an article I read in a Canadian newspaper, so I set out to find it. Once we got to Tashan, hiked up to the top and looked around, it was clear the museum was no longer there. This was confirmed by a local we spoke to a bit later on. There are buildings, but they're closed up, and you could see where posters and signs used to be but in their place were blank spots on boards.
So while we had a nice hike up the mountain, with a not bad view of the surrounding landscape, there wasn't much else to do and it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment.

Must admit to having hike up a few higher hills than this.
But one with hanging cable cars, amongst one of the very few, instead of hiking up which will take at least one - one half hours, not suitable for us above 60s.
We arrived to a nice water-fall, this hot afternoon.
Paid a ticket each for all 8 of us, to take a cable car up instead. We walked through hanging colourful wind mills. The ride takes a good 15-20 minutes.
Big boulders line the top of the small hills & overlooking the peak.
We took a short detour & next to the cable car station, a few flights of stairs, a few a little steep we arrive to a second peak (nothing to see), before turning right downwards then upwards again to a pavilion, where most who climb - rested. Took in the view, some photography & boosted we have been here.
