A bit of a drive to get here but a nice picnic spot to spend a Sunday afternoon away from the busy city

A bit tricky to enjoy without your own transport.... there are bus services to the West Gate but, as there seem to be no nearby facilities, its a bit of a walk from there to the main park attraction areas.
Otherwise try City Bus #1 to 光明路 where you can rent a bike and then cross the highway by underpass to get to the North Gate and the reservoir dam.
Inside the park there is a bike hire shop near the East Gate car park and another one along the road nearby.
Not a lot of food stalls, but a few hawkers selling 豆腐花, fish balls, chicken wings, etc. and a couple of honey stalls.
Once sorted, enjoy the scenery, camping, fishing, picnics, BBQ, and pick-your-own farms.

Tongsha is about a half-hour bike ride from the north side of Qifeng Park, which is near where we live in Dongcheng. A nice bike/walking path covers most areas of the park (part of the Greenway that stretches throughout Guangdong province) and is constantly being added to. This park is definitely best for bike riding as it is too big to see much of it while walking. It's possible to drive through, too: in many places, but not all, the Greenway parallels the road.
It's fun to watch the kayakers and other paddlers practice on Saturdays. Like every other attraction, Sundays are busier because more people have the day off work. There are beautiful flowers, greenery, and butterflies to be seen as well as pretty birds, along with lychee and longan orchards. Many people come here to fish, too.
