It is a very economical and efficient way to travel between Haichang and Xiamen City. The jetty at Xiamen City is located within a short walking distance to the No 8 Seafood market. One could also visit Gulangyi from this jetty, which was not so crowded. The only thing for foreigners to take note is that, even buying a simple cross-channel ferry ticket which cost only RMB2, one needs to show the passport when buying the ticket.

This is not apparent on the description of this port. IT IS NOT FOR TOURISTS between 6am and 6pm. You need to go to the International Ferry terminal.

There is nothing nice about Lundu port although you will need to pass through to get to gulangyu island. Get the cheapest 8 rmb ticket. Do not go on the round the island cruise - you will have to fight for a seat with a view and the boat drops you off at a very remote part of the island in the hope of forcing you to buy a map. The ferries are very crowded and there is no aircon or fans. Be prepared to be hassled by hawkers.

If there was other way to get to Gulangyu Island, we would avoid this port. It's very crowded, almost no information in English, and if you don't double check, you might take the wrong ferry. But the Island worth it, and when you back from the Island, don't forget to visit the pedestrian street, just by the port.

I thought that November had passed its peak period, but there were still a lot of group tourists. You can almost see the 35 Langyu travel agency on Xiamen Island. The scenery and architecture on the island are good. What’s rare is that there are no gas vehicles on the island. It’s true. It is very suitable for walking on the island. From Neicuoao Pier, you can go directly back to the First Pier and walk back to Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street for about 20 minutes, which is quite convenient.
