Peaceful plaza in the heart of Punta Arenas
Plaza Muñoz Gamero is the central plaza in the heart of Punta Arenas. Surrounded by historic buildings (and some terrible touristy stores), the plaza itself is a nice peaceful place to sit, relax and people watch. Magellan's statue is in the center of the plaza and the beautiful Palacio Sara braun is off to one corner. Generally, there are vendors selling locally made products, such as woolen items, as well as some farmers selling some produce. Definitely worth a quick look around the park (it's not terribly big) and a terrific "meeting place" if you're traveling with a group. It's Punta Arenas....you can't get lost!

    Very NIce Plaza
This is a very pretty plaza in the center of Punta Arenas. It's nicely landscaped and includes the Garibaldi memorial. We had a guide who explained the history, which was helpful. There are shops and restaurants in the area and it's only a couple of blocks from the water. This is well worth the visit.

    Interesting
Interesting square in the centre of Punta Arenas. We enjoyed walking around the square with the big statue of Magellan in the centre. The square is surrounded by public offices and buildings. And good place to buy some handicrafts from the local market around.

This is where the locals come to get away from the wind and enjoy some greenery. There is a statue of Magellan at the center: if you kiss the foot of one of the characters you will enjoy calm seas..

Like many people who have left reviews, we arrived by cruise ship for the day and enjoyed walking around Punta Arenas. While we have been here before, this was our first time really exploring the town and Plaza Munoz Gamreo should not be missed. In the center of the town, the central part is a nice place to sit, rest and enjoy the city. Vendors line the Eastern side of the part with booths selling mostly handmade crafts (and some less authentic Chinese made items as well). The status of Magellan in the center of the square is the definite focal point, but the benches and the people watching was far more interesting to me. Definitely worth a stop/visit if your in Punta Arenas.

The Plaza Muñoz Gamero, also known as the Plaza de Armas, is the main public space in Punta Arenas. The square was declared a Typical Zone in 1991, by the Council of National Monuments. In the center there is a bronze sculpture that was inaugurated in 1920 and that represents the navigator Hernando de Magallanes. It is a busy square with lots of locals and tourists. Most travelers in Punta Arenas will visit this square. Certainly very highly recommended to walk around the square and taking some pics.

Arrived on a cruise ship, walked up to this lovely square where free walking tours are available....not that they are necessary as there are view points and the interesting cemetry..( yes ) all in easy walking distance with museums along the way.
We enjoyed it.

Main "park" attraction is the monument of the Selk'nam Indian. If you kiss the feet, you'll have good luck! Also the monument of Hernando de Magallanes. A mgnificent plaze with archectured building surrounding.

Very pleasant square which is the focal point of Punta Arenas, Also known as Plaza des Armas. Large statue of Magellan in the centre, lovely mature trees and flowerbeds and one or two vendors kiosks. The square is surrounded by some beautiful period buildings. Lots of stray dogs lying around but they don't seem to bother anyone.
