This lake provides a fabulous foreground for the Torres as the backdrop. There is a pleasant level hike (I hour each way) to the Mirador Cuernos overlook, as well as longer, level day hikes from the Hotel Las Torres area. These are good if you are not up to the hike to the base of the towers.

We walked alongside this lake for quite some distance. You really need a panoramic setting on your camera to capture it all. It was really beautiful - but freezing cold.

Each lake in Torres Del Paine comes in a different color. This one happens to be deep blue. However, when 30 knot turbulent winds blow across it, numerous instantaneous rainbows appear.

The Nordenskjold Lake is best appreciated from the trails inside the National Park. Due to its size and position, from the outside you do not have a complete view of it.

You must stop at the view-point at this lake as you can be lucky and get the view of the Horns and the Glaciar Grey, together with all the mountains over there

This lake is set in and amongst the mountains and the day I was there made for a perfect mirror of the area.

The main problem of this are is not the winds or the recent fire, but the crowds. Refugio los Cuernos is a pure money-making machine for the "fantastico sur" owners and you can see it. Worse campsite I have ever stayed at, expensive, uneven ground, rocky, tiny toilet, ridiculous showers, a coke for 5 euro ?!?! If you can skip... More

This a different place in the Torres del Paine national park, not like Alaska or the Norwegian fjords, but very much Patagonia, where the wind is always blowing, the scenery changes with the weather and there is a feeling of being so close to nature. Named after The Swedish explorer Nils Adolf Erik Nordenskjold (1832-1901), the first to complete a... More
