In my opinion, an absolutely fantastic place that deserves much more attention than it has got so far. At the top of the mountain you can feel the ancient energy completely and I think it was a very important place for the Incas. It is definitely worth climbing up.

I had a very hard time finding my way up. I actually ended up walking out of town along another path with phenomenal views. Then I decided to turn around to actually find Horca del Inca. I did make it to the top, but was a bit disapointed. There is a lot of graffiti and the view is so so (after seeing the views from the walk I went on right before). If you have time, do it. If not, you're not missing out.

The "Horca" is misnamed, because it's an astronomical site. You hike up on a trail that was partly carved into the natural rock. There are several bizarre shaped rocks, the Horca itself consists of 2 natural flat rocks topped with a carved block. A hole in the right hand rock allows the observation of the sunrise on June 21st, the winter solstice and New Year of the Inca calendar.

A bit of a climb if you're not yet used to the altitude but there are some great views and some interesting rock formations. I'm not entirely sure why it's described as a museum but still worth visiting. Also if you want a quiet place to sit head up in the morning. I was the only person there for an hour.

We had some time before we had to leave the area and we looked for things to do. We found this on TripAdvisor and thought we would check it out. It was one of the best things we did. Unlike other areas which are very crowded we were the only ones in the whole park going up and coming back. Indeed, take a picnic basket with you, lay it out and survey the entire city from this high point in the area. Trails are clearly marked. If you are afraid of heights there are a couple places that might bother you, but for most this offers a quiet way to see the city. There is a small charge to get in (or in our case, get out), so bring a few Bolivianos with you. I think it was 10 per person, but I don't remember. It is a short walk to the church from here, so if you do one, you can easily do the other.

Unlike the Cerro Calvario, the Horca del Inca is a very quiet place to watch the sunset. The top of the mountain is very easily accessible, as the stairs only take you until halfway. If I had to choose between the Cerro and this place, I would definitely go to this one, as you see the sun drop over the city.

August is festival time in Copacabana, with visitors from all over Bolivia and Peru. The walk up Cerro Calvario was packed with throngs of people, so my husband and I chose to walk up to Horca del Inca instead. We thoroughly enjoyed the views of the lake, Copacabana and the countryside beyond. We only saw 4 other people the whole walk - one was the ticket collector. Look out for the two holes in the rocks behind the horca - they're for the light of the sun and the moon. Walk was about 45 mins. Rubbish and graffiti were the only downside.

Our whole trip to Lake Titicaca was magical and the Islands of the Sun and Moon were just mesmerising. I couldn't believe we were actually there and in parts it felt like we were on an ocean. They had just had some political uprest in Bolivia but we managed to get through to Copacabana, it was very quiet which was perfect for us as we got treated like royalty everywhere.
We also visit Tequille and just as awesome there too. But thanks Bolivia for treating us the way you did when you were going through what you were going through.

Go with the mindset of getting some good exercise and catching some beautiful views and you’ll be happy you did this.

There is an entry fee of 10 bs - when we went no one was there to collect.

The climb is short and of medium intensity- about an hour from the Cathedral. I’d say it’s not tougher than the Calvary walk.

Make sure to bring water and maybe a hiking stick. As always sunscreen and a hat is good too.

The trail at times is not so well marked but it’s hard to get lost.

The one ruin is not at the top. There are no ruins at the top but you can get great views from a nice rock perch.

If you’re hiking with young children make sure to hold their hands on many of the parts above the ruin. There are a couple areas where my eight year old almost slipped and the drop off is a doozy.

Don't expect to much but just enjoy this not too difficult and quiet climb up the fiest southwest hill of Copacabana.
After passing some dogs, mules and pigs you start climbing rock stairs to the top. Halfway you will be asked to pay 10soles as fee after which you can reach the full top. Halfway you might stop to enjoy the panoramic view and take pictures but the top is way more impressive.
Top part of the climb is a bit more challenging, especially if you want to reach one of the highest stones (well doable for young and or athletic persons).
Again great panoramic view from the top, now also to the hills and agriculture behind the city and good view on the harbor and lake.
I spotted some eagles (for so far I could see) that circled the hill and it seemed they have a nest behind some of the inaccessible rocks. Nice to spot them.
