If you want to understand the Bahraini culture and tradition, you shall visit this place.
our guide was born in same city and tild us the stroy of each corner and each shop.
what we loved most about the souk, that you can see local Bahraini are shopping .
Plenty of traditional restaurants and cafes around which we spent our time there.

if you like to explore old small street with little shops you will like this place. we love hunting for traditional snacks, candies. you can sample taste before you decide to buy. the people are friendly. parking can be a challenge during weekend.

Not really something that you’d wanna go out of your way to see. Old and difficult to get to in a car.

2nd largest souq in Bahrain that has a different taste than others. I love the authenticity and the traditional shops there

First thing is you should not drive here. Lots of traffic as it's a one way road into the city past the car wash, and also difficult to park. We parked at the big public car park next to the Novotel over the bridge and it's about a 10 minute walk.
Items that are in abundance are textiles, gold and of course sweets. But the souk is not vibrant in relation to other arabic countries, with many stalls not even open, although old and new building architecture is evident for all to compare. The high street offers sweet shop after shop till you drop. Overall very traditional, not many tourists and many delicious types of dates and halwa to take back home...

On a cruise excursion for the day, the coach dropped us off at a bus station next to the Muharraq Souq. We had a very informative guide for our walking tour around this area, to be honest it’s very old and traditional with shops selling all sorts, including sweets, jewellery, etc, etc also we tried the local tea which wasn’t to our taste. Down the side streets there was old workshops, not the most picturesque of places but like the Bahrain of old. We have places like this at home in the suburbs, different cultured shopping areas so ok for an hour.

Loads of people roam around Manama looking for the famous Bahrani Halwa but all in vein.Go to Al Muharraq souq,this is where you will get the freshly made Bahraini Halwa and ofcourse the pastry like fried delites called Matai.
Moroever the souq has the traditional cloths,beautiful gold and a veriety of household items and other general goods.
There are no touristic resturants there and not a convenient place for children or toddlers.You certainly dont want to go there while it is sunny and hot and hence always at sunset or later,
Prices are far cheaper than the malls and you will get good deals provided to bargain a bit.
Dont miss the Halwa ...even taste trials.

Muharraq old souk is a must when visiting Bahrain. The shops are traditional and offers variety of products good as souvenirs and gifts . A break in one of the old cafes whether having a local breakfast or just tea is an experience by itself. By the end don't forget to visit any of the Shwaitor family stores know for the Bahraini sweets and spices. A small tip you must bargain in the old souq to get a better deal. Overall recommended

The fabric selection is much better here than at Manama souq! I will return again and again for fabric. Also, the Saffron restaurant here has nice breakfast.
Parking is a bit tricky. You have to find a space wherever your car will fit. No large lot designated to parking like Manama souq.

I want to show my daughter about shopping which should be following traditional things.. i chose muharraq souq is the best place.. suggest me the places not only for shopping but also to show her specially in muharraq souq..

There are some sweet shops named shwaiter in the begenning of the souq. There is saffron restaurant for traditional cuisine. Some old mosques. Some old houses. Some maatams (ceremonial halls).
