St. Wolfgang is definitely worth visiting during Advent. On Wednesdays, the lights are turned off at 4 p.m. There are only torches, lanterns and candles. In the whole place is a special atmosphere and it is car-free. Carriage ride past the lake. Bells ring. The Christmas market with beautiful crafts and no kitsch. The carved figures are also placed throughout the village. At the White Roessel there are cosy huts to linger with fragrant punch or mulled wine. From Kaiserschmarrn to Bratwurst. The overgrown candle on the lake. I love St. Wolfgang am Wolfgangsee. A MUST❤️🫶

The interior and vistas of this cathedral are just beautiful. If you've visited many cathedrals and suffering over exposure... don't choose this as the one to skip

The church is well known for the intricate altar piece; a mixture of carving and painting, with two side panels that hinge outwards to reveal the religious scene within. The church is ornate - as one would expect given its antiquity - but well maintained with the gilding etc. in fine condition. Aside from the wonderful art it is clearly a working, living church with a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

The church is beautiful and has a great history incorporating ancient pagan rituals and many developments to today's church. It's worth having a guided tour, and also making the pilgrimage from Faulkensteinkircher to St Wolfgang - lovely 6 km walk through the forest and by the lake. Well worth doing. Take the boat from St Gilgung or Strobl (or Weisses Roessl) to Fuberg then follow the signs to Faulkensteinkirche and then to St Wolfgang.

The church boasts a masterwork of the Gothic era, a gilded altarpiece by Michael Pacher. There is also an astounding baroque altarpiece (from 200 years later), which would be the star attraction anywhere else.

Sunday Mass here is a must; a beautiful and ornate church filled with the local populace all turned out in fine dress as befits this obviously very important occasion. Worship from the fringe, but be thankful that such a community spirit is so alive and flourishing in Austria. After Mass, take time to walk in the graveyard and see the memorials to those that fell in both world wars, and, no, we didn't have the only losses here in GB. But, how well are those graves attended; must tell you something about the disintegration of our own communities in GB. Take your time and ponder, and say a prayer for those that fell.

We were walking through town when we suddenly heard the most angelic singing echoing through town. We got closer to the church and went inside. The choir was rehearsing. Just stunning. The church is beautiful and very old. We only wish we had been there for a service.

This is the most interesting baroque style church we encountered during our stay in Salzkammergut. Incredible altar piece, pews oozing with history and a beautiful shrine.

This is a delightful church in the middle of St Wolfgang. It is beautiful both outside and in, and has quite an unusual interior.
