Described as both a ‘Vertical City’ and ‘A Living Wonder,’ Burj Khalifa, developed by Dubai-based Emaar Properties PJSC, is the world’s tallest building.

Rising gracefully from the desert, Burj Khalifa honours the city with its extraordinary union of art, engineering and meticulous craftsmanship.

At 828 metres (2,716.5 ft), the 200 plus storey Burj Khalifa has 160 habitable levels, the most of any building in the world. The tower was inaugurated on January 4, 2010, and is responsible for a number of world-firsts. The tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure just 1,325 days after excavation work started in January 2004.

Burj Khalifa utilised a record-breaking 330,000 cubic metres of concrete; 39,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement; 103,000 square metres of glass; and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel. The tower took 22 million man hours to build.

It is a fantastic experience and you can get some great photos from the top but it is extremely busy with so many people. The overcrowding took away from the experience. I would suggest going at non-peak times. Also pay in cash if possible - there was a slight hick-up with my online payment. The hiccup was resolved though a... More

Worth visiting once to admire the impressive structural design. However, one might think twice to pay for the entry to the observation deck.

It is one of the man made wanders of the world...great engineering and great vision. How could you not go. However when you go there its just a tourist trap. Maximise the footfall...herd them in the more you get in the more money they make. Just relieved to get out it was so crowded. Still i respect what has been... More

The Burj Khalifa is good only for walking around and taking pictures from the fountain; but to go up and see Dubai from the top is ok; the view from the lake is better than you go up

We booked our tickets online the day before our visit. Upon arrival, Initial collection of our tickets was prompt and we were allowed through a few minutes earlier then stated on our booking. The building itself is remarkable, and made to feel even higher due to nothing else in the vicinity (or the globe at the time of writing!) being... More

Staying in Downtown Dubai

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown Dubai
You can’t fail to miss Dubai’s iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. It towers over the city and resides in the prestigious Downtown development. Once an old army base, Downtown is now the jewel in Dubai’s crown, a beautiful residential and leisure area housing not only the world’s tallest building, but the world’s largest fountains and mall. Wide marble sidewalks are perfect for strolling, with restaurants, art galleries and children’s play areas. Specially commissioned sculptures line the roads and Downtown is often used as a canvas for modern art displays and community events such as Classic Car Shows and National Day parades. In the cooler months, cross one of the many bridges to the Burj Khalifa park and enjoy a picnic alongside residents and visitors, or enjoy a lunch or dinner watch the dancing fountains. Because of its mixed use, Downtown is a fantastic place to mix with Dubai residents and locals and watch real life unfold in a cosmopolitan environment.
