An absolute disappointment as an experience to visit. Looking at it from the skies it looks impressive & somehow pretty, but to go there for the day was a complete waste of money & I do not recommend it. My friends & I hadn't been so thought it would be a good idea to spend the day and celebrate our friends birthday. The boat ride there was lovely, in an open boat, but coming back it was a closed off boat, it stank of fly repellent spray, the AC unit didn't seem to be working properly. The island looked like it was established in the 1990s ! The waters were full of waste (obviously brought in with the waves from other places and the mainland) and could be better maintained. The food was terrible, salad old, meat hard ... and the whole experience simply WAY too expensive! The boat ride alone 300 dhs and we each paid 400 to cover food and drinks !
The only good thing were the men who were running the resort in particular 'Vipin' we thank him for such a great service, him and his team were very attentive.
It is a shame, it could be much better maintained, the food could be much better, needs cleaning much more often. We took a kayak ride round the back of Lebanon island and it was full of broken chairs and tables - looked like a real wasted place.

Yes, Thomas from Syria has it right, what a disappointment The World is. The project is defunct now with the water eroding all the continents and the entire concept turning into a bust.

The World Islands is a project a few kilometers off the Dubai shoreline.
I had the opportunity to sail out to The World Islands in 2008 and it was very impressive at that time, but you could see then the sea was eroding the man-made islands at an alarming rate.
On most every flight into and out of Dubai International Airport over the past 10 years I always kept an keen eye on The World Islands project. Just last week I was able to snap a few photo’s from the airplane and boy is this project a total disappointment.
No longer can you make out the continents and the man-made barrier reef has almost disappeared!
It simply shows you that without the proper planning Mother Nature takes back what was to be a great project!

Seen from above, the project seems to remain unfinished and even gradually disappearing in the sea again. Wonder if this ambitious plan will prove to be a bridge too far.

The Dubai World Islands are an amazing man-made project, though you can't freely visit, and they are still unfinished.
I was lucky to fly straight overhead on a recent business trip, and whilst there isn't much to see, they are a spectacular feat of man-made engineering!
