This is a great place to get up close to nature in Dubai.
It is only about 15 minutes from Downtown Dubai and there are a huge number of wild flamingoes and other birds in winter. There are less in summer, but still a few.
Free to enter and accessible by car or bike alongside the bachelor and creek beyond Dubai Design District.

We had a wonderful experience visiting the Flamingoes at Rash Al Khor out in Dubai last month, so relaxing in such a bustling city.
We used Marcus who runs a small cycle tour company out there, he was wonderfull and took us all the way from business bay to ras al khor. Really lovely young guy with lots of energy and passion, also great equipment. Here's his contact if any of yall would like to do this, I recommend +447557656176.
We will be returning to Dubai again this year and I would defiantly take the peaceful trip to Ras Al Khor again to see the beautiful birds!!!!!

Really very good place for bird lovers. But there is only one place to observe the birds and take photos. And you can only see if the birds come close to you. Otherwise its very hard to take good photos. I was lucky I had taken very very closely but it also because of the rain before I went there. Water was under the observation hut. But I think it is impossible after april. There must be more photo places for bird lovers.

Very nice location, quiet and very little noise! In the cabin you could view the flamingos very well without much noise from other viewers. The guide who was there was also able to provide the necessary information,

I spent a wonderful two hours here in the Greater Flamingo hide. I think I could become a ‘twitcher’!
Thousands of Greater Flamingos gather here to feed. Small flocks fly in regularly and are spectacular to watch. I was lucky to be here at a scheduled feeding time. Many birds went looking for the keeper when they thought he was overdue. They then gathered in a huge circle around him as he distributed their food. Juvenile birds waited on the periphery for their turn to feed.
I saw many other species of bird & information was provided in the hide about the birds you might see. Patience is needed while you wait for other birds to appear.
Take binoculars with you if you want the full experience.
Access by private car or taxi. Paying a trip organiser would be a waste of money as access to the sanctuary is free.
A good experience for people of all ages.

Magnificent flamingos that are whiter than pink.
We see them through a small window in a kind of wooden box.
I have the impression that these poor flamingos are lacking water and food.
Maybe we should add water and red shrimp.
Nothing is impossible in Dubai, so pamper your pink flamingos.
Such a beautiful bird! Who deserves to be taken care of.

There is limited parking and we only saw the Greater Flamingo Hide, but it was well-worth going. Juvenile and adult flamingos were gathered together, walked nearby, and some even flew. Also a lot of butterflies in the area.
Migratory flamingoes are white. They made noises like talking to each other.
Some with black legs—may have been juveniles. This site is the first Ramsar (of International Cooperation Ramsar Convention) site in the UAE and dates to August 29, 2007.

Our driver dropped us at the first hide on the eastern end of the reserve but it meant we had a calm and peaceful place to enjoy some quiet time enjoying the bird life. If you want to see masses on flamingo you need to move to the larger center further on in the middle of the wetlands. We got to see the flamingo dance because there were fewer flamingos and the feeding was not so competitive. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the variety of water bird species. The security guard on duty was particularly helpful with my husband in a wheel chair and he went to amazing lengths to hail a cab on the highway for us. It is valuable to experience the Dubai broader experience and support their attention to ecosystems and not just the hedonistic fun experience of Dubai. Don't miss it!

Seeing the flamingoes is lovely and the back drop against the Dubai skyline is special. But note that the 2nd hide access on Ras Al Khor road is now shut due to roadworks. You can only enter from Oud Metha road and go to the main hide - which has a 10 min stay only. And you can't walk around the wildlife sanctuary either. Lovely to see but be aware that it is a long trip with only a 10 min stay.

Visitors to Dubai might be surprised to find a large number of flamingoes just 10 minutes away from Downtown but that is what can be found at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary.
There are a number of hides from which to view the flamingoes - they are located very close to the birds and have interesting facts in the walls and a telescope for closer viewing.
Visits are currently restricted to 10 minutes.
Parking is available and the whole experience is free of charge.

I don’t understand your question? How long it takes to get here depends on where you are coming from... If you are asking how long it takes here at the Sanctuary then it depends on how much you like bird watching... there isn’t much to see and you view from inside a building.

Добрый день. У нас несколько вопросов. 1) Как добраться до заповедника от ближайшей к нему станции метро?
2) в какое время происходит кормление птиц, чтобы они подходили максимально близко?
3) часы работы заповедника? Во сколько закрывается?

One can only see the flamingos from the room? Can't people take photos with the flamingos behind?
Written 11 October 2018
Room has a few windows but only two special machines for bird watching so you won't see much details with your eyes only

Hello, can anyone explain the exact location of the Sanctuary, or at least the Flamingo hide. Google doesn't help much, as it shows the location in the middle of the water..
Will I be able to reach it with taxi, and then just walk around the sanctuary?
Thank you
